I need to remind myself that being bored is a privilege.

We opted for a longer day of driving today in order to have three nights in one spot.
Merimbula.
We're in Merimbula. A small town just over the border into New South Wales.
We're finally back in my birth state after almost an entire month in Victoria and South Australia.
Brad did most of the driving, as usual, today.
I'm grateful.
Though when he doesn't feel like talking, it's pretty quiet in the car.
We don't tend to listen to the radio or put on music, so I tend to practice mindfully staring out the window.
That's okay for a while but I try to break it up with doing things on my phone, or if we're on a good highway I'll work on my laptop.
While we made good progress today, we couldn't stick to the mostly 100km/h speed limit because huge sections of the road were windy.
It was beautiful.
We were winding through lush bush, with giant trees that were photo-worthy.
But with deep bush here in Australia often comes little to no reception. And no Internet reception meant I couldn't even listen to a podcast as I looked at the big trees and winding road.
As my bum got sore from sitting still that long, I got more and more bored.
And as I met myself in my boredom, I reminded myself that there are so many other places that would be worse to be.
So many.
I reminded myself that if I'm safe enough,
and well fed,
and in trustworthy company,
and that the only reason I'm bored is because I can't use the Internet
while I'm stuck in a well-functioning car,
being driven somewhere cool,
then being bored is an absolute fucking privilege.

Thanks for reminding me to stop complaining about being bored. Sounds like you had a good trip overall though. Defintely photo worthy? Any captures of the wildlife? I do love the wildlife in Australia. It is so unique and beautiful in its own way. Glad you had a good trip and are safe.
Thanks, mate. We're still a couple of weeks away from home but arrived at our current destination just fine.
Definitely heaps of wildlife. If you're following my posts, then I expect to post a bigger post when I get home that includes many of the (wonderful!) animals we've seen while we've been travelling.
I can't wait to see the bigger post. Until then, I am enjoying the posts you and Brad make during your travels.
Jeepers, I never get bored. I have too many things I should be doing, alongside things that don't need my attention, gets my attention.

Ha yes damn right. Pays to download the podcast just in case! Love Merimbula and the drive up that way is gorgeous. I do love Mallacoota actually but that's a bit of a diversion. Last time I was up that was was with Dad 💔
You're right, need to download a couple of podcasts ahead of long driving days.
It is SO beautiful, this stretch that winds from SE Vic all the way up the southern portion of the NSW coast. I think we'll need to come back and explore a bunch more, including Mallacoota. ❤️

absolutely. and a treasure, in a way. i don't know how you are, but i tend to cram things at times and have these incredibly busy periods, so try to really cherish the boring parts of life. won't have them always. and i hope you know what i mean, this adventure that seems to be your life at the moment certainly doesn't look like a boring part ;)
I think the trick is that I need to be okay with being with ALL my emotions, including boredom. I don't know if I can cherish them, but maybe I can at least ACCEPT them 🤔
On this journey to Merimbula, you rediscover that the true destination is not just a place, but a state of connection with the present. Thanks to Brad for his dedication at the wheel, and for those shared moments of silence, where you find the beauty of the moment.
Every bend in the road and the reminder that life is a journey full of surprises, where the lack of an internet connection invites you to reflect on the richness of simplicity. This ‘boredom’ becomes a reminder of privilege, an exercise in gratitude that anchors me in what matters most: safety, companionship and the serenity of the surroundings.
Thus, every moment becomes an act of appreciation, where inner peace and joy are the true treasures we carry with us.
