Sorare.com Week 27 | Sustainability Solution (+4$ Earnings)
Sorare right now is in a stage where all the values of players continue to trend down after the reward nerfs while there are not enough new players to scoop up the sell and inflation pressure. This is a problem that won't fix itself next season with the new reward system.
The Sustainability Problem Explained
So there is a certain amount of money that comes in from auctions, and part of that goes toward the costs of profit of the company & shareholders, what is left is put in rewards which makes it a losing proposition for most players of the game. Since the value of cards fully depends on potential earnings, the expected returns for players need to be high to offset the risk which pushes down the prices of card auctions. With the new model where old cards can earn New cards and new cards can earn cash prizes, new cards will get dumped lowering their prizes and reducing the earnings on auctions for Sorare which will make rewards again unsustainable. In case there would be a big inflow of new players, winning prizes will along with that become a lot more difficult which also puts pressure on auction money inflow.
The Sustainability Solution
Part #1 Adding Card Burn Values
So one of the problems is that there is no card burn mechanic whatsoever right now while cards intrinsically have no real value. What I would do is take 20%-25% of the auction value an lock it into the card as burn value. This can be done in a currency based on the choice of the buyer (USDC/ETH/BTC/SOL ...). All these funds can be held by Sorare and part can be used in Defi to generate Yield for an extra income stream to cover costs. Users at any time can burn their card and get the crypto that is attached to it. This gives cards fundamental value and might make players willing to pay a bit more while introducing a burn mechanic and a revenue stream also making it so that there would be more trading fees since cards unlikely will go at absolute minimum value. Reward cards would have 0 burn value attached to them.
Part #2 Create Sorare Governance Token
The good thing about 'governance tokens' is that they mainly get speculative value which adds up to many millions out of nowhere mainly with the idea that it could get a revenue share in the future. Just creating a token with an initial use-case of letting the community vote on which tokens are introduced on the platform that are allowed to lock on cards. This along with the promise that it will get future use-case in the game. The way to put these tokens into circulation is to allow players to burn old cards based on the rarity/level which would create a huge burn and also boost the demand. New rewards cards also can be burned for the Sorare tokens and maybe there also should be a way to convert the current sorare coins or give them as rewards one way or another. The exact number of fully circulating supply and such can be determined properly.
What this would change: Basically cards get fundamentally some value so it's easier for users to invest in them (now it's almost impossible), The total value can be used in DeFi and trading fees should be higher while the overall supply gets a burn mechanic. The Sorare Governance tokens would out of nowhere create multiple Millions if not 100+ Million rewards out of nowhere while creating a massive ongoing burn event and an increase in auction earnings. Later down the line more use-case can be invented for the tokens and possibly some revenue share.
Rare Cap 240 Team:
With the rewards totally nerfed it pretty much just reflects also in the card prices which especially for the weaker players have gone down. I was happy this week with the decreased threshold which manage to earn me 15$ in prize money.
