Worldcup Celebrations! Millions in the streets of Argentina!
Más del 10% de la población Argentina está en la calle mientras escribo estas líneas. Hay quienes hace un día no duermen, en una vigilia constante. Somos 47 millones de personas. Se estima que 5 millones están en las calles de la Capital Federal esperando a su selección.
El equipo aterrizo ayer de madrugada y durmieron en el predio de la Asociación de Fútbol Argentino (AFA). Al mediodía salieron hacia la Capital Federal para sumarse a los festejos populares. Se estima que va a tardar 8 horas. Ese recorrido normalmente se haría en 30 minutos. Pero decenas de miles de personas siguen al equipo desde un día antes de que su avión aterrice. Ahora son millones. Aguardaban pacientemente en la periferia del aeropuerto, con sus carpas.
More than 10% of the Argentine population is on the streets as I write these lines. There are those who have not slept for a day, in a constant watch. We are 47 million people. It is estimated that 5 million are in the streets of the Federal Capital waiting for their national team.
The team landed yesterday at dawn and slept at the facilities of the Argentine Football Association (AFA). At noon they left for the Federal Capital to join the popular celebrations. It is estimated that it will take 8 hours. This trip would normally take 30 minutes. But tens of thousands of people have been following the team since a day before their plane lands. Now there are millions. They waited patiently on the outskirts of the airport, with their tents.

Jugando futboll en la calle con una pelota, una lata, o botellas de plástico. Cantos, parrilladas en medio de la calle, fuegos artificiales, y kilómetros de banderas celestes y blancas. La movilización fue de tal magnitud que no lograron llegar a destino y tuvieron que en helicoptero volver al punto de origen.
El fútbol es un fenómeno unificador. Nada nos conecta más. Una fiesta a la que todos están invitados. No importa etnia, género, contextura, clase social, nacionalidad, religión o ideología. Incluso rivales históricos del fútbol local lo olvidan. Se cobijan todos bajo una misma bandera empujando para el mismo lado.
Playing futboll in the street with a ball, a can, or plastic bottles. Singing, barbecues in the middle of the street, fireworks, and miles of sky-blue and white flags. The mobilization was of such magnitude that they did not manage to reach their destination and had to return by helicopter to the point of origin.
Soccer is a unifying phenomenon. Nothing connects us more. A party to which everyone is invited. No matter ethnicity, gender, social class, nationality, religion or ideology. Even historical rivals of local fútbol forget it. They all come together under the same flag, pushing for the same side.

El mundial en Argentina se vive de una manera muy intensa. Una inmensa marea humana satura las calles de celeste y blanco. Todo comercio se paraliza, en su lugar las parrillas callejeras emergen de la tierra. El humo y el aroma de la carne asada, las banderas y los cantos populares. El folclore y tradición Argentina por excelencia.
The World Cup in Argentina is lived in a very intense way. An immense human tide saturates the streets in blue and white. All commerce is paralyzed, instead the street grills emerge from the ground. The smoke and the aroma of grilled meat, flags and popular songs. The Argentine folklore and tradition par excellence.

En un país que está pasando por un momento económico y social muy delicado un mundial es una bocanada de oxígeno. Puede parecer estupido y superficial. Pero la felicidad siempre debe permitirse. La gente no olvida sus problemas cotidianos. Solo los meten en el freezer unas semanas.
We have thousands of field songs. Each song has combinations with other lyrics and themes. Popular music reaches every corner of our Argentina.
In a country that is going through a very delicate economic and social moment, a World Cup is a breath of oxygen. It may seem stupid and superficial. But happiness should always be allowed. People do not forget their daily problems. They just put them in the freezer for a few weeks.

el clima en mi país es intoxicante. Cómo un virus, no hay escapatoria a ese sentir que nos une. Todos con la misma sonrisa tonta en el rostro, rebosantes de felicidad. Abrazando desconocidos. Tarareando canciones que sabemos sin querer, de tanto escucharlas. Lloré, reí, volví a llorar, confusión absoluta. ¿Todo está mal? ¡Innegable! ¿No es razón suficiente para exprimir hasta la última gota de felicidad?

The climate in my country is intoxicating. Like a virus, there is no escape from that feeling that unites us. All with the same silly smile on our faces, brimming with happiness. Hugging strangers. Humming songs that we know without wanting to, from listening to them so much. I cried, I laughed, I cried again, absolute confusion. Is everything wrong? Undeniable! Isn't that reason enough to squeeze every last drop of happiness?
I think so!
