Bonus Windfall For Smaller Teams

Shrewsbury Town Football club drew with Liverpool in the FA Cup last night and the competition is doing what is was designed to do. Create memories and share some of the rewards with clubs that get lucky by getting big pay day games.

Shrewsbury were at home when they drew but with a tie now at Anfield they get a boost as they are expected to receive in excess of £100 000 pounds. That doesn't sound like much, but for the smaller clubs this is a massive boost and a lifeline. No one expects them to go through the next time around but then again it is on the day and being a cup game anything can happen.

The various cup competitions can be a nuisance to the bigger clubs as they are concentrating on Europe and the league. This gives the smaller teams an opportunity that they normally wouldn't get as they are playing against weaker teams that are concentrating elsewhere.

Josh Cummings scored both goals after coming on as a substitute. This is a game he will never forget.

Liverpool would never have wanted a draw as that just means another game which they don't really need right now. With the team Liverpool put out tonight there should have been enough to put the smaller club away, but they are still in the tie.

My family supports Liverpool, but when I heard about what it meant for Shrewsbury you kind of have to hope they can pull it off. I normally support the underdog in most things as it makes it more fun even though you know deep down the chances are slim to none existent.

The club is already a winner as far as everyone is concerned and now they have nothing to loose. The pressure is now on Liverpool as no one expects anything else than a Liverpool victory.

The club already received £135 000 for going through the 3rd round and if they can somehow get through this next game can pocket another £180 000.The overall prize money is not bad for the smaller clubs as this is the one competition that they do have a small chance of making some money if they get lucky with the draws.

The fifth round draw shows a few surprises as there a re a number of teams from the lower leagues who have had a good cup run so far. It looks as though there will be 6 teams in the draw that are not from the Premiership and possibly 8 if the replays go against what is expected and there is another upset.

The overall winner of the FA Cup gets £3,600,000 and the runner up receives half that bagging £1 800 000.

Just the ticket sales alone will net them more than 100000 GBP, I think. Isn't it a split between both teams for ticketing revenue in the FA Cup? I know it is like that in Belgium. I can imagine a game at Anfield, with even only 30000 supporters at between 20 and 90 pounds a ticket, nets a lot more than 100k, or am I wrong here?

They expect 50 000 at Anfield. I am not 100 percent sure but you could be right about the splitting of gate receipts. The more the better for the smaller teams as they really need it.

There was a game on TV the other day that I almost stopped to watch, but the teams didn't sound familiar based on what I have been reading here lately. There must be a ton of different leagues going on right now.
