Get In There Lewis

This has been a saying we have come used to hearing as Lewis Hamilton's race engineer "Bono" congratulates him on another race win. I suppose he is a bit like Marmite and you either love him or hate him. I am not a fan of his but respect what he has achieved on the track as he has been the driver of his era. Every era has one with the last one being Michael Schumacher.

He will with no doubt go down as one of the greats of Formula One and rightly so. His numbers are seriously good once you start comparing them to the greats that came before him. I don't think you can compare though as every era is different offering different challenges. A driver in the 1950's or 1960's may not have been able to achieve this type of feat as firstly they raced less and lets be honest it was much more dangerous than it is now.

His Formula One career started in 2008 when he signed to race for McLaren. That season he finished runner up to Kimi Räikkönen by a solitary point. The following year he won the championship setting him on his way to equaling the record of 7. Over the next 4 years Red Bull and a certain rival called Sebastien Vettel ruled the roost. Over those 4 years we also saw a certain Michael Schumacher come out of retirement and help set up the Mercedes car ironing out any problems for future drivers.

He is the first one to say it is a team sport and couldn't have done it without the support of the team which shows he is a true champion.

This changing of teams had little impact on Hamilton as he took only one season to settle in and win his second title in 2014 and go on a run winning 5 more titles in 6 years missing out in 2016 to his co driver at Mercedes Nico Rosberg.

The records that he now holds are ridiculously good having competed and started in 264 races.
97 pole positions is more than 30 percent of races he has started first on the grid.
94 wins and 53 fastest laps shows you how dominant Lewis has been. Not only dominance but the consistency is what shows the class I believe.163 podium finishes and 227 races completed finishing in the points.

Over the last decade it looks as though everyone has been racing for second as he has given very few opportunities to others. The team he has around him is second to none and a perfect combination for success. Hamilton is not just a driver though and spends much of the week between races working at the factory with the team.

He has been heavily involved with anything and everything Mercedes including the Project One road car. Mercedes have been able to develop at a quicker rate than others as they have a competent driver prepared to try anything out. The Driver assisted Steering known as DAS was developed and believe very few others would have been happy having a moveable steering wheel whilst travelling in excess of 300km/h. Hamilton and the Mercedes team are a perfect fit never settling and pushing the barriers testing new developments and technology all the time. A settled team can do this as they are never playing catch up.

Many of the Formula One fans are hoping for something different next season and hoping for some fresh competition. Vettel is moving to Aston Martin and is expected to at least challenge again. I just don't see any changes happening and expect Hamilton to win next season and break the record with 8 World titles to his name and only then consider retiring. I somehow don't think he will just disappear as knowing him he will stay in the sport somehow as he has become somewhat of a figurehead for the Formula One racing fraternity.

12 years, Seven titles, he's like the Serena Williams of formula one. He's actually been so consistent so far and look at him. I think he's got it and hell win more titles. The GOAT Indeed
