Possible Scapegoat?

His performances may have tailed off slightly, but they will return. I think his level was so far out there people just expected him to save everything.

I find it amazing how after one or two iffy performances David De Gea is being written off by the Manchester United fans. Talk of him past his prime and being replaced is a little premature.

Over the last 3 or 4 years at least he has been the stand out player in the team and has been the one who has saved them from even more embarrassing defeats. He has single handedly kept them higher in the league tables from his last ditch efforts in goal.

He has let some real shockers in but then again he saves shots others wouldn't.

I have never been a Manchester United fan yet he was the one player who deserved to be the first name written on any team sheet. Maybe his form has dipped slightly, but that happens with every sports person. He out of any goal keeper manages to get some part of his body behind shots that others wouldn't.

Facts and data don't always show the whole picture. looking at this maybe the fans are right in their thinking?

The mistake with Mason Mount's goal yesterday was definitely a lack of concentration and can happen to anyone. Articles about his poor form over two seasons are just not true and they are picking on certain games like how he made mistakes against Watford and Everton. I wish the same critics would count the goals that he has prevented over the last 5 seasons as he has been outstanding.

I can recall over so many games when De Gea was the player that kept the team in the match and teams struggled to score against him. Maybe he was on form as they had such a leaky defence he was always being tested. The team has improved in certain aspects and one of them is tightening up at the back.

When you have a strong defence and you have confidence in your players it gives you confidence yourself so it could be a combination of things. You don't become a bad player overnight and he is no bad player. The seasons that have passed he was worth at least 20 points to the team and possibly more as he was that good. Many teams would love to have his services and United should count themselves lucky they still have him.

I find it strange that fans can turn on players so quickly when they team suddenly starts doing well and punching way above where they were. The team is not the team they had 10 years ago and are rebuilding and have a chance of making it into the Champions league which was not even on the cards 6 games ago. The expectations are always high in a club like United yet it does sound as though they are nit picking against the one player they should be thankful for.

To be fair it's usually the media spinning articles more than the fans. He has been a lot poorer this season but is still a quality keeper.

I did find it strange he was even in goals though as he is not usually the cup keeper. They have the other one for that. Gives de gea a break and a chance to unwind.
