Project Pitlane Update

Project Pitlane for those of you who haven't followed it is a coming together of the Formula One teams and using their technology and machinery to help out in times of crisis. What the teams have achieved is nothing short of miraculous and they are still developing and creating new items.

The teams are not allowed to work on their cars right now as everything is on hold so they are all busy helping fight Covid -19 through medical innovation. Mercedes has been leading the way with their CPAP breathing device that has now been approved and is already in their second week of manufacture. The plans have been shared and are available globally so other companies can manufacture and help out. Currently 1000 of these breathing devices are being manufactured every day now.

So far they have delivered free hand sanitiser to hospitals in the UK, France and Germany. Other countries are going to follow.

Mercedes are working with Ineos who is one of their sponsors and are currently working on a PPE face shield for medical workers. This is being done at Portsmouth using the Ineos boating base. On top of this Ineos has changed a chemical plant into a mini manufacturing plant where they are making 1 million hand sanitizer bottles a month that are being made available to the health sector. Ineos is playing a serious role as they are involved in over 300 products in total for the fight against Covid-19.

PPE face shields are now being sent out at the rate of 100 per day. This is all being done by hand by the racing crews so this is no small task and they are working flat out.

Ineos said that this is a different type of race and it is a race against time trying to help as much as possible. Everyone is doing their part including the cycling team raising money for charity having racing events on Zwift.

Daimler the parent company of the Mercedes Formula One team has made available their 3D printers plus the vast amount of tooling equipment in their factories for anything that is urgently required.

What I find amazing is every single sponsor Mercedes has on their car they are doing something. From Tommy Hilfiger, Petronas, UBS, Hewlett Packard and all the others they are all heavily involved in this which shows you what great support they have.
