I would not be happy if I was Egyptian as the people pay for this event decades after it has finished. To be fair how many countries would be queueing up to host it knowing their economy is in tatters? I think many countries putting forward a proposal would have a huge outcry as it wouldn't be that popular. Lets hope Egypt gets it and there are no other bidders.

It would certainly cost them a fortune, but I am of the opinion that it would be beneficial to them in the long term
That's a good point around the costs in fairness, but the long term benefits to the countries infrastructure and tourism boost may well offset a lot of that investment.
