Sportstalk Curation Showcase

This week we have had a bumper week of decent posts hitting the Sportstalk feed so sit back and relax as we work our way through them. One just never knows as some weeks I am having to hunt to find more than 3 or 4. This is a fun post for me as highlighting users is how we advertise our tribe. These posts all fall within the 7 day window of curation so an upvote or a follow would be welcome.

Top 5 Tuesday: The Deadliest Football Matches

First up this week we have @amirtheawesome1 who doesn't post as often as some of us on here, but when he does they are worth waiting for. Tragedies at sporting events is something we have witnessed over the years and here @amirtheawesome1 highlights the top 5 in the football world.

One would have the thought the footballing authorities would have learned form previous disasters to help avert the next ones, but that is never the case. No wonder health and safety became such a big thing considering there was none at one point.

Hooliganism has no place in sport and the terrible days back in the 70's and 80's are now behind us. At the Euro 2020 final @talesfrmthecrypt highlighted in the comments section that we cannot let down our guard as that could have escalated into something terrible. It seems that the police
are only a force against peaceful demonstrations and when force is required are suddenly politically correct. This is why we still have these flare ups as there is little to no law and order.

There are some other tragedies that are worse than what is on this list and as @amirtheawesome1 stated warrant a post of their own. I can recall a few years back when a referee halted a match after spotting a piece of the stand breaking off. That was luckily averted as he managed to orchestrate a safe evacuation.

What's on today's Menu? Trenbolone & Anabolic Steroids

Another much anticipated post was this one from @edprivat in a follow up to his first one that seems like months ago lol. For most sporting fans ignorance is bliss yet the whole sporting world seems to be doing somehting dirty.

Paying top dollar to cover your track sis fine for now but what happens when it is revealed how dirty you were in 20 years time. Most likely most of the "athletes" would have retired or be dead depending on how much dodgy stuff they have taken during the course of their careers. We often wonder what is the point of these tests if they are going to get away with whatever they are doing anyway. This will help research once technology catches up with the culprits so it is still a valid exercise. Wouldn't it be great if a new test would uncover everything as that would turn the sporting world on it's head and this needs to happen. World records are there for a reason and athletes smashing them should not be a regular occurrence. Great post yet again and look forward to the next edition in this series. I think having been in competitive sports myself and being clean it makes me sick knowing what is happening in realty. As a sportsmen you have no chance as it is not a level playing field coming up against others who are cheating.

Is it too late to get back into sports?

@niallon11 may or maybe not be experiencing a mid life crisis talking about getting involved with team sports at his age. The truth is though is it is never too late as there is somehting out there for all of us if we just look. A passion for team sports is somehting you do miss when you walk away and it will never ever fade. There is something special being involved with a group of guys or gals who have your same passion. You don't have to be the best or the biggest in these events at our ages as those days have long gone. Not only is it great for networking but it is also a release from your every day normal life stuff. This I do think is positive move for @niallon11 and anyone else considering this as if you don't enjoy it you can stop. I can only imagine the social scene with a team like this being in Ireland would be worth signing up for guaranteed fun times.

Speculation that Zion Williamson weighs 330 lbs now causes major concerns

I actually enjoy this episode of stories by @sports.guy55 on the "fat boy" who is meant to be a professional athlete. Nothing wrong with being over weight unless you are meant to be a professional sportsmen. Who can forget the Klump family with Eddie Murphy at the buffet.

I think every sporting team has raised the bar over the last few decades regarding diet and fitness. This should never be allowed to happen and in my view he is in breach of contract. If you are injured it is no excuse to have a party and let things go as we all know what it is like to come back and have to suddenly train. This guy has $10 million reasons to make sure he is in the best condition of his life and obviously doesn't care. Some sportsman cannot handle fame and money and this could just be the case here. Remove the money until he meets the teams standards should be the first step and then see how he reacts. Many athletes have suffered due to injury and I personally know of a few who went from the top in their sport to a salary that would cover very little. Most contracts have a clause that cover injuries, but in that clause the salary is on a sliding scale.

Which batsmen have the highest percentage of ducks in Test cricket?

Time for one more I think and last but not least we have @talesfrmthecrypt highlighting how bad some "batsmen" are in Test Cricket. Actually a bit harsh to say batsmen as the worst performers are bowlers as batting and scoring runs is not their specialty and why they are in the team. Most cricketers should be able to hold a bat though as today one is expected to take pride in their wicket making it as difficult as possible. We have seen number 11's score important runs in the past turning the match on it's head.

I knew Danny Morrison was a shocker as he is known for being a total bunny having no clue. Luckily for Danny others have faired worse than him but he is still part of the bunny club.

Some worrying stats is the English "batsmen" highlighted as this is their chose profession. Imagine having this as your career and you were performing so badly. Lucky for them someone obviously likes them as how many chances must one have to prove you haven't got what it takes. I can think of many other players who were discarded after only a few opportunities and deserved more of a break. Great post yet again and definitely some thought went into this one.

Thanks once again to the entire sporting community for posting great posts with such varied content. Have a great Christmas everyone.

@talesfrmthecrypt I really enjoyed his pos. Had throwback memories from 20 years ago when I was addicted to cricket. Not that into it at the moment.

@amirtheawesome1 that post was shocking in a good way. Was a fantastic read and had me hooked.

I think for reminiscing and general storytelling there is no better sport than Test Match cricket. I guess the pace of the game helps to provide sufficient opportunity for that to happen.

Glad you enjoyed the blog

First of all, thank you so much for including me in this. The reason I don't write here as often is the same reason I am so happy to be on this list, I want to always create content that adds to any community that I am in. I like to put a lot of effort into my work, so having showcases like this is very much appreciated as it validates it.

I have already read @edprivat's post and it was very well-made. I will be checking the rest now.

Thanks again.
