Current Test rankings will surely see the SA side slip down to the West Indies very soon. It is sad to see the demise of a great cricketing nation and who can no longer compete at the highest level.
The South African Cricket Team is touring India currently and they are playing on Sunday in the first international against India with a T20. I haven't paid much attention to the team for a while and had a quick look who is in the squad. It made for some sad reading as I know they are sticking to the government guidelines on the make up of the squad.
I am just being brutally honest and I wouldn't pay to go and watch them. They would have to pay me and I still wouldn't as I have better things to do. I feel sorry for the Indian public as this is not a proper team and is a total farce. I think Zimbabwe could give this team a run for their money and feel sorry for the few players who will be carrying the team.
The team is on a hiding to nothing and it shows where the standards have gone down the drain. I don't blame A.B De Villiers for retiring when he did as the writing was on the wall. The cricket scene in South Africa has been a joke for a while now and if you take 3 or 4 players out of the team there is no team left that can compete.
South Africa is different to every other country when it comes to sports as the Government lays down the rules to how the team is selected. Sixty percent has to be of color even though we are 25 years in with the new Government. Surely a team is based on performance and what a player offers skill wise. The local cricket has been diluted so much that maybe this is what is left from the talent pool and it is one sport that has deteriorated very quickly.
I honestly hope they get smashed as the Government needs to see what they are doing is so wrong and is just racist in my opinion. I won't be watching as it is not something I can support.
Sorry to see this situation of SA, otherwise we know how good SA historically is and it was by large remainined in top 2 consistently in past decades. I think more initiative is required at the training and policy level. Without a policy, you can not set up a trend and/or the enthusiasm among the new generation cricketers.
I am a big fan of Rabada and AB is my all time favorite batsman, then how can you say cricket of south africa standard has gone down. I agree that south africa is not that sharp as it used to be and those temporary situation comes in every team, you can take the example of Australia also.
This is not temporary. Rabada is good and AB has retired. Look at the squad and tell me who is still decent. De Kock and Du Plessis and then you start to struggle. This honestly is the worst team I have ever seen.
Is that surprising that India is ranked so highly? Have they typically had a good team in the past or is mostly just this year that they have done so well?
Not really surprising as they have the biggest population that plays cricket. They have normally been limited as they have never had any good fast bowlers. they have one now and he has made a huge difference to the make up of the team. Australia will beat them now as they have a better balanced side.
Unfortunately yes the standard has gone, but I must also say that the overall standard of cricket has gone down in this glamour age. We could see fearless cricket, but the quality bowling of late ninties is missing in 21st century. As for SA team it is really a sorry state of affair. The parity level between the teams at international level is also missing, which ICC must take care of.

Thanks so much. I try and cover all the sports as they are all interesting in some weird and wonderful way. There is always a different angle to view them from as the more you understand why then it all makes more sense. I tend to do that with everything these days as there is always a reason for something and that is what interests me.
