U Turn Required

Paul Pogba has been with Manchester United for 4 years now and has created more issues than he is worth. He has literally achieved nothing except cause trouble in the dressing room. A player thought of so highly has been one big expensive flop. I see no fight in him as deep down he wants to be at another club.

Many still rate him though as a high class performer yet I don't see it. When you are playing against sub standard players a decent player will always look classy. The same applies if you are in a decent team as everyone looks good complimenting each other. I think this applied to him whilst at Juventus as the others around him allowed him to express himself on the field. At United he hasn't had that luxury and believe the reason why he has failed and has made no impact. Collectively they are all weak with average players and no one can shine. One player can't make the difference needed on their own and it needs a group of talented players to raise everyone else.

I do believe he is baited by the media far too often which brings him into the limelight. It is easy to get someone to talk if you boost their ego baiting them along the way. He looks a simpleton and this wouldn't even be fun or challenging to get him to say things that would make a story. Possibly the stories we have heard about him have been exaggerated as we have all seen what the media are capable of these days. When there is no story they will find one using any means and he is a soft and easy target.

This season was meant to be the season he was going to move to Real Madrid or Barcelona yet things have changed quite drastically. This will most likely be the first season in years where we see very little movement happen between players. Clubs will all have a shrunken budget and be looking at players they can afford and add value to the team at the same time. Pogba doesn't fit into that category and is at the upper echelons when it comes to salaries and valuations.

All this means is that he will have to stay for the 2021 season with United and hope he can move on next year sometime. His agent must be as frustrated as he is as this was not part of their plan.This has scuppered a huge pay day for both of them and set plans back a bit.

He needs to refocus on what his job is currently and make the difference he was bought in to do. That surely would add more value overall instead of trying to take the easy way out.United are not the team they once were and cannot be compared to teams of 10 years ago. I don't think they will achieve those types of results for a very long time and Pogba is not in the same caliber yet he obviously does.

Shifting ones mentality to staying somewhere where you don't really want to be is difficult and why I think he wont succeed. He has patches where he shows his flair and class but it is all too infrequent and only against inferior players. Covid has done the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona a favor as they will see what this player is capable of over the remainder of this season and next. No excuses now as he is injury free and fit and let us all see what he is made of.
