UEFA Earns More Than FIFA

source

Looking at this map it is understandable to realise the power FIFA holds compared to other sporting bodies. Whatever they decide will not always be for the greater good of the game, but what is good for FIFA. This is all about revenue and how many dollars they can make.

We saw how they short changed Budweiser in Qatar even though Budweiser has had along standing relationship with them. FIFA must have known long before that this was going to happen pulling the alcohol sales and only having restricted zones like at restaurants and at the hotels. Budweiser were played for a fool so the blame could be shifted onto the Qatar Government and not FIFA.

This week FIFA announced a proposal to have a club World Cup every four years sandwiched in the middle of the four year cycle of the normal World Cup.

Next year we will see the Club World Cup take pace in Morocco with 7 teams which would dramatically change in 2025 with the proposal of 32 teams. 4 teams in 8 pools so an additional 6 matches that season for the finalists. This cannot be seen as a positive for the game as you have to ask yourself why do FIFA want to add this tournament to their list?

UEFA have the rights to the lucrative Champions League which is the umbrella for 55 National Football Associations. FIFA have the World Cup every 4 years whilst the UEFA has The European Cup every 4 years plus the Champions League every year. FIFA are fighting for a bigger slice of the monetary pie and more control in football than they already have.

source

As you can clearly see the UEFA revenue is on the increase with last year achieving well over 5 billion euros. The format they have works and is only getting bigger and bigger.

source

If we compare this figure to FIFA who earn from a 4 year cycle selling the World Cup with sponsors and tv rights etc. The bulk of the World football revenue is being earned by UEFA and this is obviously a fear FIFA have as they are playing second fiddle. The biggest and most powerful sports ruling body is losing their grip to UEFA and UEFA s not going to stand by and lose control.

This proposed 32 team club World Cup is about trying to increase FIFA's earnings and I cannot see UEFA letting this happen. This would affect the season too much taking away from the Champions League. Lets be honest whoever wins the Champions League or who is in the Champions League will most likely win the Club World Cup. UEFA doesn't need added games increasing an already congested fixture list.

In some ways you start to wonder if having the World Cup in Qatar was more of a power struggle to show UEFA who is boss by disrupting the European season on purpose. FIFA have proven in the past how corrupt they really are and the greed within the set up would like far more monetary rewards.

As you can see the stats don't lie and they tell a story that is far more interesting than just reading headlines about a new Club World Cup as this is all about trying to regain control of the game along with the dollars on offer.

Yes UEFA is earning much more than FIFA which is good as they have built a solid competition with sponsors they look after.

Interesting. It is all about money and control. The same thing plays out with the NBA and FIBA although we have a clear winner in that one. FIFA are not going to win should UEFA revolt

Funny how money is always the reason behind these wonderful new ideas.

I think UEFA Europa League is also included? Or is it already part of the Champions League.

Yes this is all part of UEFA as they have a few besides the Champions League and the Euro's.

Off topic, but sad to see baseball as the most popular sport across the Caribbean as opposed to cricket.

Yes and even that is a surprise as basketball was popular as well. I suppose it has to do with how close they are to America and the fortune that sport offers. Most of the locals are poor so they will be swayed by finances. The West Indies Cricket Board haven't exactly done a great job as how many times have we seen player disputes over wages. If the West indies ever get their glory days back then they could turn this around ,but that is highly unlikely as they don't really have the talent coming through.

Wow I did not know that at all thanks for sharing that. I suppose UEFA could hold FIFA shotgun. Kinda hope they do with how corrupt FIFA have been. Couldn't think of a greater "victim" should UEFA hold FIFA hostage

I also found this very interesting and didn't know this before I checked the stats. How simple things become when you understand what is happening as this is just too obvious.

I think this is why they're planning to do their World Cup version but for clubs. Between this and the Super League ideas, the only question becomes, will football players even get a fucking rest before retiring?

Super League wont happen as it will wreck the current Leagues. FIFA will try and get this going but honestly also cannot see clubs agreeing to this as this is too much. FIFA don't care about interrupting the European season as this World Cup just proved that and I just don't see UEFA accepting this. Aa 32 club World Cup would take at least 3 weeks to complete which would be 2 games per week for those that made it to the final.

It's a dilemma for me really for similar reasons why I am pro the World Cup every two years. Those reasons, despite their original motive being power and greed, do seem to benefit areas that don't have the positives of being located in Europe. More recognition, financial benefits, and quality improvement would come toward other teams in terms of leagues and national teams, especially those located in Asia/Africa.

Ironically, UEFA has become the Super League of the world. If you follow what's happening to leagues in other continents then you'd see how the other leagues are surviving solely because they sell players to Europe (Brazilian league for example) or buy old players from Europe, (Japanese, Chinese, and Saudi leagues for example). There are many local leagues dying and becoming a source of in the region as there's no room for growth. This is just the other side of the coin.

FIFA competing financially with UEFA Is going to have effect on the players(fatigue) and it will kill the joy of watching the World Cup every four years. Thanks for the insight ,now I know was FIFA is up to.
