VAR Too Complicated

The Virtual Assistant Referee or VAR was meant to be used as an aid to simplify things and get results right. The offside rule that the guys in the control room sit over can't be 100 percent sure. The line that runs against the last body which is the offside line is making calls that could be millimeters between a goal and no goal.

Personally I think it should be fairer to rule on the players feet and not a hand or a shoulder which is part of the decision making right now. Two goals in the last few days had been disallowed for offside against a players body part and not his feet.

Football is in the entertainment business and this VAR is removing goals on fractions of millimeters. Surely giving the attacking team the benefit of the doubt is what the sport needs. If they can decide on the off side line being the feet then it surely would be fairer for everyone. Goals are scored with the head and feet and not your shoulder or hands.

Norwich had this goal ruled out which is fractions of a millimeter. This just seems wrong as his feet are way behind the last player.

Tonight Wolves had a goal ruled out against Liverpool for a stray elbow that had according to the VAR team to be offside. With the naked eye you would be hard to say either way as it was level with the last defender who is the offside line. The feet of the Wolves player were behind the Liverpool's players feet but had body momentum going forward at the time which is how his body was protruding.

The same applies if a defender sticks out his hand and a player is half a meter offside or onside because of the arm that is outstretched. This just doesn't make sense and has become too petty as a simple process should be what is used and not this technical confusion. Fans want the right result but not when one or two millimeters are involved.

To be honest I think the way VAR is built to be harsh with it's judgement sometimes can be killing, it's mostly favoured Liverpool all season long and in my opinion I think wolves deserves a point and more from that game

@cryptoandcoffee, I agree with you, it should be feet and not any other body part, otherwise all the effort and hard work one individual is putting to lead and to catch the ball ⚽ to score a goal becomes useless. Stay blessed.

The use VAR in football may not last long if there is no reasonable improvement in its application. Many people are actually against it.

From my recollection, this is how the rule is stated in the FIFA handbook.

It's all about body position (not just a foot past), but I can see the frustration. Offsides is always a judgment call that deal with millimeters. If the side ref is not perpendicular with the players than just a few millimeters ahead or behind the action can make players appear to be on or offsides.

I think it will just take some time for players to adjust and then I think we'll see the way they play normalize and less and less of the calls being made.

Offsides is a penalty that I have never understood anyway. I think it is just a hard one to track and adding more technology to it isn't necessarily going to fix things.

They could save a lot of headaches if they went with a line off the front foot. To be offside it must be seen past the line from the defenders foot and the VAR would be a lot more effective. I agree with you on that one.

Yep I'm for the feet being used. When was the last time someone in the Prem scored with their armpit?

How i even wish the var is not introduced in the first place. It will have been better.
