Card Impressions

Second, There are many cards in splinterlands that cost 4 and have reach everything from electric eels to minotaurs to fiery trolls, but why should you ever use this grumpy dwarf? Simple really, because you can always use him as he is a neutral card AND a spellbook default. In fact he is better than the silvershield spearman at lvl 1 in speed but has 1 less hp. More of a trade off as opposed to being labeled worse or better. However, compared to the 4 cost minotaur of the earth splinter grumpy dwarf is well.... dwarved. A very good card, but is it the best 4 cost reach card by any means? No. Is it a very good card that can be used in most combat scenarios? Yes, but like many cards he is better when synergized with other cards or a particular ruleset. Having armor makes him able to withstand one melee blow. Not to be underestimated. Weak magic ruleset can also make your grumpy drawven assault unexpectedly formidable. Having enrage at later levels can lead to increased attack, but due to his low max hp. He usually doesn't have the opportunity to get enraged and merely remains grumpy.

Strategy and Placement

In my battle here I place him in position 2. Rarely will you see this card anywhere except position 2, because in situations in which it can be utile outside of position 2 it is common to use a better 4 cost card. Typically grumpy dwarf is used for his reach and armor. In my battle here I use him in position 2 with my summoner granting all my allies 1 additional armor. Chainspinner in the event of magic can be hit in armor instead of hp. The opponent also expected a magical assault. However since my defense is armor based it is 2 fold.

Since the enemy only has 1 melee attack he is eventually whittled down due to armorsmith granting armor to the front line each turn. That coupled with ebbing damage from battering ram lead to the enemy succumbing in round 5. A victory without any deaths. Armor can be powerful, or brittle. Depending on the circumstances.
