Ingratitude with Cristiano Ronaldo

Design sem nome (1).png

Today I felt ashamed for my country.

Not because my country or my national team lost, or did something wrong, but because a large part of the Portuguese are "spitting" on a person who has already brought so much joy to our country and has already taken the name of Portugal to the four corners of the world.

This only confirms a phrase that I often say in relation to athletes and sports:

In sports, it only takes a second to go from beast to bestial or from bestial to beast.

Honestly, I cannot understand how people can forget so quickly all that Cristiano Ronaldo has done for our country and our national team.

Yes, it is true that in the last two years he began to demonstrate that he could no longer be at the same level as in other years when he carried the national team in qualifying for European or World Cups, as well as in the final phase of the same.

But did Cristiano take the Portuguese national team on his shoulders that much?

Let's look at the numbers:

European 2020

In qualifying for the European Championship, Cristiano Ronaldo scored 11 goals, being the 2nd best scorer.

In the group stage, Cristiano Ronaldo scored 5 of the 7 goals scored by Portugal in the group stage (2 goals in the victory against Hungary, 1 goal in the defeat against Germany and 2 goals in the draw against France) making Portugal qualify as the best ranked third.
If not for Cristiano, Portugal would not have passed the group stage.

World Cup 2018

In qualifying for the World Cup, Cristiano Ronaldo scored 15 goals.

In the group stage Cristiano Ronaldo scored 4 of the 5 goals scored by Portugal (3 in the draw with Spain and 1 in the victory against Morocco).

European 2016

In the group stage he scored 2 of the 4 goals scored by Portugal and in the semi-final he scored 1 goal in the victory against Wales.

These were just some of the competitions in Cristiano's long career, I could continue to analyze more years that we would see even more the dependence that the national team had on Cristiano Ronaldo to be present in the final stages of European or world championships.

How is it possible for people to say that he never gave anything to Portugal and that he didn't take Portugal on his back?

I find this ingratitude and a very short memory, but I also know that this is something that the social press encourages, after all yesterday after Portugal won 6-1 against Morocco in the round of 16 of the World Cup, there were several times when one of the questions to the players and to the coach was how Cristiano was doing after being on the bench at the beginning, if there was any kind of negative reaction on his part.

Clearly, like any sportsman, he must not have liked not being in the starting line-up, but that's why the press is always looking to find reasons for a scandal around Ronaldo, it's too much.

Trying to sell that Cristiano didn't celebrate the victory with the rest of the team and didn't thank the Portuguese present is just the culmination of everything, as we can see in the video below, he told his teammates to go greet the fans.

https://twitter.com/Sporting_CPAdep/status/1600432640527515648?t=VQcohNPz84jI6lE-gPlW_w&s=35

However, showing this does not sell news or keep people on the news to watch.

If Cristiano was Spanish or Brazilian, or another nationality, he would have much more affection and compassion from the fans.

He may be close to the end of his career and no longer able to do the same things, but we cannot forget everything he has done for our national team or even in clubs and the individual awards he has won.

Please show respect and value to something that will no longer be seen on television, and we never know if there will be a player who can do the same as he did for our country.

I have the same sympathy with you. To be honest, I'm more of a Messi fan but the way the fans and the "world" treated Ronaldo is inhumane. This guy poured his heart out for the country. This is not just about personal records, it's about the pride of representing the country and even spending in the last moments of his career.

I am not a Ronaldo or a Messi fan since they are different players that put the football level very high.

If my country (Portugal) What was not included in the list of People denegrate Ronaldo I was ok because super players will always have haters but my country should be greatfull with Ronaldo.

Cristiano Ronaldo has made countless happy memories for all across the world, but he hasn't covered himself in glory recently. Dropping an interview that put the whole Portugal squad under the microscope, acting petulantly when substituted against Korea; his timings were poor.

The media has sung his praise for a long time, but he won't be spared if he continues this way. He's wise enough to know cameras are panged on him at all times.

I really dont agree with you.
HE made the interview with Piers Morgan and it is his right before being a world class football he is an Human and sometimes we need to talk about What is happening When every says the fault was him.

The episode with Korea it was bad but he is very competitivo and he wants always do more and more so it was the momento heat.

He know that all cameras are pointed to him but as I saied before he is also a Human.

It is his right to speak out, but he should know the timing of that interview will put sharp focus on everything he does. Everything that's happening to him right now is a result of that. He could've dropped that interview earlier, he could wait till after the tournament to drop the interview.

He got himself into this mess. He's always been perceived as arrogant, the interview only fuelled those claims. Media will interpret every of his move to make money. He cannot win the media war, no one can.

He made that interview in my opinion in the correct timming since he will out England 1 month and the premier league is stopped. The other option would be only in the end of season, in my opinion, it will be to late.

He wanted to left from Manchester in the summer but club and the manager dont let him go saying he is a important players but then he didnot play.

He wants to play more time.

Even before the interview and all him carrer years he was always watch from media.

Who says the club stopped him from leaving last summer? A player under contract leaves if an acceptable offer is tabled for the player. All the club linked to him never placed a serious bid that matched his valuation. Only the Saudi club tabled a bid, and he rejected the club.

The manager saying he's an important player to him is nothing but market strategy. You don't go out there and devalue your market. If Ten Hag told the media he wanted Ronaldo out of the club, that will ruin his market value.

Man U paid significant sum to acquire him, and he gets paid over £500,000 per week. The club is no charity organization that will just allow him to leave for free or at a significantly lower valuation while he's under contract. He knew that. He did that interview as a last resort to force the club to tear up his contract so that he can be free to join any club he wanted without the club paying a transfer fee. What he did was nothing but cheap blackmail. His case is not in court right now because Ferguson probably intervened.

For all the interview and all, look what he got himself into now. The Portuguese manager dropped him for the last game and everything is about him. The manager was forced to tell the media to leave Ronaldo alone just this morning. CR7 got himself into this mess!

We have different ways of analyzing the situation.

Manchester United, if I'm not mistaken, paid 25 million euros for the transfer and taking into account the amount you mentioned of 500k a week in salary, I had managed the thing differently, but I don't own any company or any club .

We are saying that CR7 is a cost of 24 million per year (500k * 4 weeks * 12).

If the coach wasn't really counting on him anymore, nobody can convince me otherwise, even if the club had sold him for 10 million euros (something that wouldn't be difficult) in reality the club at the end of the year had another 34 million in cash (not counting the jerseys sold) and at the moment he will receive 0 for the player and he spent half a year paying his wages.

As a federated handball player/practitioner I learned that the club never gains much by forcing a player to stay at the club against his will. I'm not defending that CR7 acted well in the summer, I'm simply analyzing the issue at the club's management level.

Regarding the Portuguese natinal team, which is where my post focuses, I keep saying that Portugal does not deserve CR7 and that the Portuguese, especially the average, have a very short memory, just look at the importance he has had for our team in this last 20 years.

The coach said that and very well because journalists are trying to find a subject where there is none.

He greeted the fans, he was the one who told his teammates to go greet the fans, he was the one who spoke in the locker room before the game and he went to celebrate all the goals with his teammates.

Where is something he did wrong here in the game against Switzerland? And honestly I can't see...

I sympathetise with him,he's been a loyal servant and hero for Portugal, so it's quite surprising why a lot of Portuguese are "spitting" on him.

But similar to @mckane I blame Ronny a lot. I took things from a very different angle in my new post,Where Did Cristiano's Problem Start. In there you would see that I concluded that his pride has brought these things on him, as I wish he pipes low subsequently.

Cheers
