Who will be the next coach of Brazil?

Design sem nome.png

Brazil disappointed not only the Brazilian people but the rest of the world in the World Cup in Qatar.
Brazil is and will always be an eternal candidate to win the World Cup for being the only country in the history of the World Cups to have won the title 5 times. Of course, this always brings extra pressure to the Brazilian team, but this is something the players are used to.

After being eliminated with Croatia in the quarterfinals on penalties, coach Tite, who had coached the Brazilian national team for 8 years, resigned, taking the position of coach, desired by many, of one of the eternal candidates. to win the World Cup.

The Brazilian Federation has always had the rule that the national coach has to be Brazilian, but since 20 years have passed since the last World Cup conquest, they are considering dropping this principle and trying to hire a foreign coach to replace the coach.

But who are the candidates who are appointed to the vacancy?

Let's look at the options that are put on the table and analyze them...

Dorival Júnior

Dorival Júnior began his career in 2002 coaching Ferroviária, which at the time was in the Paulistão A3 Series. Between 2002 and 2022 he coached teams like Figueirense, Fortaleza, Criciúma, Juventude, Sport Club do Recife, Avaí, São Caetano, Cruzeiro, Coritiba, Vasco da Gama, Santos, Atlético Mineiro, Internacional, Flamengo, Vasco da Gama, Fluminense, Palmeiras, Santos, São Paulo, Atlético Paranaense and Ceará.

As we can see that he is a “reputable” coach and established in the Brazilian championship, having already coached all the great teams in Brazil, but until the end of the last team he only won two “important” titles (a Copa do Brasil with Santos and a Copa Sudaamericana with Internacional). However, last year at the helm of Flamengo he won a Copa do Brasil and a Copa Libertadores.

During these years of his coaching career, Dorival's name was never mentioned as a possible Brazil coach, but now due to the lack of reputable Brazilian coaches and the fact that he won two significant titles last season, he has joined the list of possible candidates.

Alexi Stival (Cuca)

Alexi Stival, better known as Cuca, is a veteran coach who began his career in 1998 at the helm of Uberlândia. During his career he managed teams such as São Paulo, Grêmio, Flamengo, Fluminense, Cruzeiro, Atlético Mineiro and Santos.
He had a brief stint in the Chinese league, having coached Shandong Luneng for two seasons.

During his career he won the Campeonato Brasileiro twice (2016 with Palmeiras and in 2021 with Atlético Mineiro), won the Copa do Brasil in 2021 and won the Copa Libertadores in 2014 also with Atlético Mineiro.

Despite his long career, he never truly proved that he would be at the level of excellence that would be required to manage a team like Brazil's. After all, in 24 years of career he only managed 4 important titles despite having coached all the big teams in Brazil.

Josep Guardiola Sala (Pep Guardiola)

Pep Guardiola needs no introduction, as we all know his path as a coach and all the achievements he achieved.

I don't know if him being named as one of the candidates is some kind of desperation by the Brazilian Federation to show that they are committed to hiring a renowned coach, but in my opinion this is just for them to look good in the picture and say that they tried to hire Guardiola, but he didn't accept it.

Even more so given that he just renewed with Manchester City and said that he could not leave without first managing to win a Champions League (being one of the few titles that Manchester City still does not have in its history).

Another thing that could also be difficult for Guardiola would be for him to adapt to the reality of the Brazilian national team, both in terms of culture and in terms of mentality, since the Brazilian people are known for their taste for parties (players do not differ) and Guardiola is very methodical and tough on many subjects.

Jorge Sampaoli

This is yet another veteran coach, being Argentinian rather than Brazilian, who started his career in 1994 in charge Alumni de Casilda having spent most of his career in South American clubs such as Argentino de Rosario (Argentina), Bolognesi ( Peru), Emelec (Colombia), Universidad de Chile (Chile), Atlético Mineiro (Brazil) and Santos (Brazil). However, he also had passages in European clubs like Sevilla and Marseille.

In his favor he has the fact that he has already been national coach of two national teams, Chile and Argentina. Having won the Copa America with Chile.

However, there is a cultural aspect that will weigh heavily, which is the fact that there is hatred between Argentina and Brazil, it was possible to see this once again when, in celebration of the title of World Champion, Argentine fans were burning the Brazilian flag.
Would the Brazilian Federation put an Argentine in charge of the selection? Honestly, I don't think that would happen.

Marcelo Gallardo

Another Argentine coach who is said to be in charge of the Brazilian national team.
Gallardo has a 10-year career as a coach, having coached only two clubs, Nacional (Uruguay) and River Plate (Argentina).

He is a highly regarded coach in Argentina and South America, as he has won 15 titles, 7 of which are international titles: 1 Suruga Bank Cup, 1 Sudamericana Cup, 3 Sudamericana Super Cups and 2 Libertadores Cups.

Gallardo is well known in Brazil and now he has even been suggested as a possible coach for some Brazilian clubs next season, as he decided not to renew with River Plate and will be free.

However, compared to Sampaoli, in addition to being Argentine, he has another unfavorable aspect, which is the fact that he has never played in Brazilian football.

Rogério Ceni

Honestly, I can't understand why his name is being linked to the position of Brazil coach since his career as a coach is very short (it only started in 2017) despite having already won a Serie A title and a Super Cup from Brazil, both at the helm of Flamengo.

However, he still hasn't really managed to prove his value at the helm of Brazil's biggest names (an example of this are the times in charge of São Paulo that were not memorable years in the club's history).

Luiz Antônio Venker Menezes (Mano Menezes)

Luiz Antônio Venker Menezes, better known as Mano Menezes, is a Brazilian coach with a lot of experience in Brazilian football, having started his career in 1997 in charge of Guarani V. Aires. During these 25 years of his career, he played for major Brazilian clubs such as Grêmio, Corinthians, Flamengo, Cruzeiro, Palmeiras and Internacional.
He had two experiences outside Brazil at Shandong Luneng (China) and at Al Nassr (Saudi Arabia).

Despite his long career, he only won 4 important titles that make up 4 Brazilian Cups (Corinthians, Flamengo and Cruzeiro twice).

However, he has experience as a Brazilian coach, having been the head coach of the Brazil national team from 2010 to 2012.

Will we have a return of Mano Menezes to the Brazilian team?

Abel Ferreira

Abel Ferreira is a Portuguese coach who started his career in 2011 as coach of Sporting's juniors.
In the last 3 seasons he manages a Brazilian club, Palmeiras, and has won a Brazilian championship, two Libertadores Cups and a Sudamericana Super Cup.

Due to having achieved these achievements in such a short time in the Brazilian championship and also having already shown that he is a good coach, having different tactics and managing to keep his team focused to always want to win more, he is very respected in Brazil.

However, he has a problem, which is being Portuguese and there are still many Brazilians who don't like the Portuguese due to the time of colonization.

Zinédine Zidane

It needs no introduction, as we are talking about the coach who has already won three Champions Leagues with Real Madrid, the only club he coached.
Zidane is currently without a club, however, there are several media that say he is waiting for the vacancy to be coach of the France national team, but now that depends on whether Didier Deschamps wants to remain in the French national team or not.

For many Brazilians he shouldn't become the Brazilian coach, as when he was in charge of Real Madrid he somehow boycotted some Brazilian players like Vinicius Junior.

Jorge Jesus

Jorge Jesus is a Portuguese coach who became known in Brazil after being the coach of Flamengo for two seasons and having won a Brazilian Super Cup, a Brazilian championship, a Sudamericana Super Cup and a Libertadores Cup.

For Flamengo fans, he is a great coach who has gone down in the history of the club, but for other Brazilians he needs to go back to coaching a Brazilian team so they can be sure if he is as good as he showed at Flamengo or if it was a “lucky” time.

Carlo Ancelotti

World-renowned Italian coach who is nearing the end of his contract with Real Madrid ends at the end of this season.
He has coached clubs in all of the most competitive European leagues: Italy, England, Spain, France and Germany.
His history has 25 titles, 11 of which are from international competitions.

Ancelotti has several points in his favor, such as the fact that all or almost all of the teams he has coached have Brazilian players in the first team, he knows Brazilian football and currently he is already working with part of the new generation of Brazilians who will be in the next World Cups. (Vinicius Junior, Militão, Rodrigo, etc).

However, Brazil would have to wait for Ancelotti until the end of the season.

Will Brazil be able to convince Ancelotti and wait until June?

Fernando Diniz

Fernando Diniz is a Brazilian coach who started his career in 2009 coaching Votoraty.
Even though he has coached teams like Atlético Paranaense, Fluminense, São Paulo and Santos, he has only managed to win one Sudamericana cup so far.

Honestly, I can't understand why Fernando Diniz is being considered for the position of coach, given that Fluminense fans themselves (the current team coached by Fernando Diniz) admit that their teams cannot be consistent during a season, that normally they They start very well, but they always end badly).

Taking into account these possible candidates, which would be the most realistic that would do the job in the Brazilian team?

Even though I think they won’t get Pep I still think Pep would have done a wonderful job with this Brazilian side. They are stuffed with talent from all corners of the pitch and it would have been cool to see Pep manage them.

I know for sure that Zidane is going to be the next France coach and I think we all know that it has been his dream for a while now. Even before the World Cup concluded we heard rumours like he was the coach going to take over no matter the outcome of the World Cup.

Carlo Don Carlo. Hmmm, will he leave? I still think he has a chance though even though he has stated time without number that after Real Madrid he is gonna retire. I think in a press conference he stated that even if Real Madrid sack him he would not leave. (Just trying to emphasise that Real Madrid will be his last chapter as a coach)

So in your opinion Pep, Zidane and Ancelotti will not be the next Brazil national coach.

From the rest of candidate you pick one?

I would be lying if I said I knew the work of most of the coaches you listed. I don’t have a choice but I do hope they get a very good coach.

Personally I think they could get Ancelloti. I don’t think they can get Pep or Zidane who seems keen on the France job.

Ancelloti has a lot of experience in managing. He has managed a lot of big clubs and he’s no rookie to the big name players.

And you think that Ancelloti will want to be Brazil national coach?

I don’t know. That could be their stumbling block since he has talked so much about retiring after his Real Madrid job. I’m pretty sure they can convince him to take the job.

I only know a couple on this list as I don't follow Brazil. They are not the team of yesteryear so whoever gets them needs to do some serious work with the selection and players.

I really think they need an European coach because currently there is no Brazilian coach with value to be the national coach.

Hi,
Ofcourse Pep,Zidane,Carlo are the best in your list. They all represent an upgrade on the erstwhile coach who is a great coach too.

Pep is not about to leave City now, same with Ancelloti in his current job. Zidane has been said to be awaiting the France job.
Brazil will have to find a solution somewhere. It's quite a difficult task now to getting a fitting coach.

Cheers

People says since Ancelotti it is almost in the end of contract, maybe when it ends he can be the Brazil national coach.

But yes, currently it is difficult to see what will be the best coach to have an upgrade in the Brazil national team.

That contract expires in June 2024 and Ancelloti has declared that he intends to stay till the end. I hope those people know..I can't wrap my mind around Brazil waiting for two years.

Yeah quite a tough search for them. We await.

Cheers
