An Unexpected Gift on Easter!

My sister in-law has been selling products online and she was in the process of selling many of these old-school Starting Lineup Sports Superstar Collectibles. Last weekend, on Easter, I mentioned how I was a massive Titans fan. Later in the evening she randomly handed me THIS!!

I don't care man I will always have a thing for sports memorabilia. I don't know what it is. I guess its just the love of sports. I know it's not healthy to become attached to physical items, but sometimes I just don't care. To be able to preserve an item that can be easily destroyed is pretty cool thing. A thing that is rare, unique, specific and just special. Maybe that's weird and childish but screw it.

As I have said I am a huge Eddie George fan. I pretended to be this guy in my backyard. An all time great Titan.

This was such a cool gift because it was totally unexpected. Another reason it was special is because I remember having a Steve McNair and a Eddie George 'McFarlane' brand figure when I was younger. But I lost them tragically. I do still own a Chris Johnson one though. Anyway this one is cool to me because I lost my Eddie George one from when I was a kid. I also like the style. While McFarlane makes very detailed toys this 'Starting Lineup' Brand has a nice old school feel to it. Starting Lineup might be less detailed than McFarlane but it is still pretty nicely detailed.

I don't own that much Oilers memorabilia either so that is really cool to me. This particular season is actually unique too because this season the Houston Oilers were in the middle of transitioning to becoming the Tennessee Titans. So, for two seasons in 1997 and 1998 the franchise was known as the Tennessee Oilers. 1999 was the year the Tennessee Titans were born.

On the back there is a little section you can cut out to join their collector's club. The offer expired on December 31, 1998. Dang, I just missed it.

A part of me wonders what exactly would happen if I attempted to join in 2020 anyway. Probably nothing would happen, but I find it slightly amusing.

The back of the package it also displays every team's logo from the 1997. It is so nostalgic and trippy seeing some of these logos! Beautifully though 1997 was a world without the Houston Texans. A glorious time indeed!

I wonder how many of these Eddie George figures in the world? This exact version? How many will exist in one hundred years? History, sports, and art.

What do you think of this collectible? Do you own anything similar to this? Do you collect anything?

Stay safe everyone!
