Visiting UNESCO World Heritage Site Pont-du-Gard - My Actifit Report Card: June 16 2025
Hey dear actifitters and readers,
we visited the UNESCO world heritage site Pont du guard yesterday.
The day started with breakfast and a short visit at the river Ardèche.
Maybe we are going for the full tour with the kayaks trough the canyon in the next days.
Our main goal for yesterday was the visit at Pont du guard near Nimes.
It took us an hour to drive to the place. We made a short stop at the supermarket to get some ice cream and some water.
It was a short walk from the parking space to the visitors and center.
And another short walk from the center until we saw the first arches of the amazing building.
Pont to guard was build by the Romians to provide fresh water to the city of Nimes.
It's an mazing building which is part of a 50km long system of channels and bridges to get the water from the source to the city.
It was build in only 5 years and is almost 2000 years old by now.
If I find some time after my vacation I'll hopefully will do a post about this aquaduct with more pictures and information.

It's always fascinating to see 2000 years old structure!!! How did they have done it back then? What technology they used... Fascinating...
