Extreme Difficulty - Editing in 4K on a PS5 Without a PC [ENG/SPA]

After several years of blogging on Hive, I’ve seen people come and go. With the token hitting such all-time lows, a lot of people have gotten discouraged from posting; honestly, I don't know if the price will ever bounce back. In my case, I want to keep going despite the market trends, but my situation has changed drastically since my PC was stolen.

Tras varios años blogueando en Hive, he visto cómo las personas van y vienen. I mentioned in a previous post that I understand why the phone is the primary creation tool for so many people. I’ve used it myself for simple stuff, but for the kind of content I produce, it takes twice as much time on mobile. Posting gaming content from a console to a phone is a real challenge: normally, you’d record all your clips and screenshots to an external drive and then edit them comfortably on a computer.

Yo también lo he usado muchas veces para cosas sencillas, pero el tiempo que debo invertir para el tipo de contenido que yo hago es el doble si uso el móvil. I capture my gameplay in 4K, and on PS5, the file format for that is WebM. It’s not a very common format and few editors support it, so I’ve always had to run it through a converter before editing. If I record in HD (1080p), the format is MP4; because of that, if I want to keep sharing content, it’s going to be hard to do it in 4K for now—transferring a 15GB file to a phone for editing is just impossible.

Unless I get an OTG adapter, I can’t transfer files to my phone from an external drive. Since I don't have one, let me tell you what I've been doing to create GIFs from WebM files on my phone. Turns out PlayStation has an editor called ShareFactory; it’s actually pretty solid and you can do almost anything—from editing the audio track to cutting and merging multiple clips—even though it lacks the effects that are popular nowadays.

The catch is that you have to do everything with the console controller. Even though the PS5 supports mouse and keyboard, this app isn't optimized for them. You can imagine how hard it is to edit using a controller; it’s enough to discourage anyone, but for now, it's the only way I can keep posting gaming content. On the bright side, if I put in the effort and the video turns out well, I can upload it directly to YouTube from the console. That helps a lot, but if I want to make a post with GIFs, that’s where things get tricky.

El detalle es que tienes que hacer todo con el mando de la consola. Aunque el PS5 soporta mouse y teclado, este programa no está optimizado para ellos. Comprenderán lo difícil que es editar con el control; puede desanimar a cualquiera, pero por ahora es la única forma de no dejar de publicar contenido gaming. Lo bueno es que, si le pongo empeño y el video queda bien, puedo cargarlo directamente a YouTube desde la consola. Eso ayuda mucho, pero si quiero hacer una publicación con GIFs, ahí es donde se complica la cosa.

The workaround I found is editing the clip in ShareFactory on the console and then uploading it to the PlayStation App on my phone. I just have to link my account and download it once it shows up in the app's gallery. I have to use my phone for the GIFs since PlayStation doesn't have that feature built-in.

El método que encontré es editar el clip en ShareFactory dentro de la consola y, una vez listo, cargarlo a la PlayStation App del teléfono. Solo debo enlazar mi cuenta y descargarlo en cuanto aparezca en la galería de la app. Es en el teléfono donde tengo las aplicaciones para crear los GIFs, ya que la Play no cuenta con esa función.

This whole process is a grind, but in the gaming world, when a level gets tough, you don’t just quit; you find a new strategy. Mine right now is ShareFactory and a lot of patience. It’s going to be a long road, but editing with a controller and relying on a mobile app is proof that I’m still doubling down on Hive, regardless of what the price chart says.

Todo este proceso es tedioso, pero en el mundo del gaming, cuando un nivel se pone difícil, no dejas de intentarlo; simplemente buscas una nueva estrategia. La mía ahora se resume en ShareFactory y mucha paciencia. El camino será pesado, pero editar con el mando y depender de la app móvil, son prueba de sigo apostando a Hive un tiempo más, a pesar de lo que dicta una gráfica de precios.
