dannewton just finished a 13.59km walk, that lasted for 191 minutes.
This walk helped dannewton burn 1060.0 calories.

Description from Strava: I know, I know.... considering the lack of running recently, 2 pairs of shoes may look extravagant, but I only bought one pair today! Let me explain...

I already knew that I needed to replace my current pair of shoes soon, as they have covered 600km. And while they still feel super comfortable, the soles are wearing away. I'm not chucking them out just yet, but I do need to be thinking about a replacement soon.

My parents have been clearing out my old bedroom (I moved out 7 years ago, and they've decided to have a sort out and clear some clutter). To cut a long story short, they sold some of my old toys and other things, and split half the money with me.

So I had £100.00 to treat myself with, and I was made to promise that it wouldn't just get used on anything... it need to be used for something special

hmmm... I think I know just the thing!

In town we have a couple of Sports Shops (Sports Direct and Intersport) but there is also a dedicated Running Shop - The Lincolnshire Runner. Its been here for as long as I can remember, and considering its small niche, it evidently does very well (or well enough to stay in business at least.

It was also an excuse to walk into town, partly as I haven't really walked much this week, but also to see how my calf injury is recovering (or not as the case may be). The walk into town was nice enough, and after some rain recently it was good to have a dry spell. It took about 45 minutes to walk in...

And I was back outside in less than 5 minutes. I don't waste time with this shopping lark!

As I walked in the Assistant asked if I wanted anything. I showed him my shoes: New Balance 680's and asked for something similar. He said they didn't have those, but the closest would be the 880's, and they had last years version on Sale (which made them £50 cheaper!) I tried them on, they immediately felt comfortable, so I bought them.

Job Done!

I usually say I'm not brand loyal, but since 18 years when I bought my first pair of running shoes which were New Balance, I've never run in anything else. Sometimes I wonder what a different brand would be like, but to be honest, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

So today I bought 1 pair of shoes, which are the navy blue/white pair on the bottom of the photo. I'm not really a fan of the colour scheme, but I have seen worse, and besides they'll be replaced in 6-8 months anyway!

The second pair in that much more vibrant and striking Yellow and Blue colour scheme are much more exciting. Whereas the first pair are road shoes, the 2nd pair are designed to go on trails (mud, gravel, grass, bogs etc) hence why they have a much more defined 'tread' on the sole, so they can offer more grip (shown below).

I bought these trail shoes 5 weeks ago... and then I was promptly injured 4 weeks ago, so I've not even had a chance to use them yet!!

most frustrating...

An update on the injury front, it does still seem to be getting better on the whole, although yesterday while sat at my desk it seemed to be more sore than it had otherwise been recently. Don't quite know what to make of that, especially as I then walked 13km into town and back earlier today, and felt completely ok for the whole 3 hours of walking. It even included a big hill that a couple of weeks ago was difficult to walk up, but was totally fine today.

The Physio is on Tuesday, so will wait for a expert opinion, and hopefully I'll have a green light to try a little bit of running later in the week...

Keeping all my fingers crossed for some good news!

I've not tried New Balance. I may need to try a few brands next time I am buying. I don't really like them to be too garish.

I've always got on fine with New Balance (any injuries are usually self inflicted and not the fault of the shoe anyway)

I do wonder if changing shoe brands would make a difference. I do think manufacturers over complicate the shoes, there are a million different versions, all apparently very slightly different

I don't really like them to be too garish.

Hah! I think 95% of them would come under 'garish'!

There are so many different shoes out there. Each manufacturer may have dozens of styles, so it's hard to choose. Even if you find something you like they may change it next year. I've been trying Allbirds as they are more ethical, but may not be considered the best for running performance. They are probably good enough for my level.
