Afternoon Run - 10km (another sweat fest!)

dannewton just finished a 10.09km run, that lasted for 75 minutes.
This run helped dannewton burn 786.0 calories.

Description from Strava:
Just like Monday... it was time for another medium-ish run
Just like Monday... I was working from home and managed to finish at 4pm
Just like Monday... the weather was going to be another hot sweat fest

But unlike Monday... I picked a different route!

Instead of the generic bypass route I opted to head in the opposite direction, and head along the A607. This takes me through Waddington and then out to Harmston

(and then out to Coleby, Boothby Graffoe and Navenby, but I'm not running that far today)

Good things about todays route, is that it is almost exactly 10km, and I like the round numbers. It is also almost completely flat (literally 6m of elevation over the whole 6 mile route!).

The flatness is good. Last Monday I suffered in the heat, and that made it difficult to keep my heart rate lol. It was also hard as the bypass route has a very gentle, but continuous hill to navigate, which also raise my heart rate.

Today, as it was really warm again at 27C, I made the decision to avoid the hills, and it definitely felt easier this afternoon. I still set the watch alarm off due to overdoing it, but not as often as on the previous run.

I run all the way to the crossroads at Harmston, ad then turned and ran home.

Today also marked the first time in ages that I was able to increase my VO2 Max. I know its only gone up 1 point to 46, but that still shows that even though the heart rate stuff is frustrating, I am starting to see the benefits

It's all good :-)

And now for a nice looooong cold shower, as quite frankly I feel disgusting!

About the Athlete: Living in the UK, I am an intermittent Runner, but always striving for more consistency. When I'm not training I can be found photographing insects or listening to really loud angry music (which is the best type of music obviously!)

Fantastic work keeping your hr down today, I found that impossible.

I keep looking at my VO2 Max but mine hasn't changed for ages. I know it's not really that accurate but I wish they would put a decimal place on the number to give you some indication of which wat it's moving.

It was hard work out there, just trying not to get frustrated as that will also raise my heart rate lol, and yep after this week we should be back to more 'usual' weather for the time of year

Yeah I know its not really accurate on the watch, and to take it with a pinch of salt... just another little target to aim for I guess. Having decimals would help though, its shown my 'fitness' has increased on every run in the last 2 weeks, but no idea where that number actually was.

Well done. Running in this heat is not easy. I just had a short swim this evening to cool off. I will run tomorrow morning.

Cheers Steve, just a little run tomorrow pm and then a long run on Satuday am and then we can get some cooler weather

Will need to pace myself on Saturday though as the forecast has now changed to 30C!

It's due to be cooler next week. Just need to be careful when it's hot. It was okay this morning.

I just feel you are so much dedicated to running because running by this time of the year in your country with the heat may be very crazy
Kudos!

I am super keen to be honest, really enjoy being out and moving...

The weather isn't ideal, as it is unseasonably hot at the moment, and I expect that to settle down in the next few days to something more manageable. Just gotta do my best for now!

It is really not easy to walk in the heat, but when one gets used to it and has the passion inside, one does not mind the heat and continues with one's routine.
