Another Champions League Week is Here!

Hello hiveans and sport fans, yeah it's another special week of European football.
In this post I will focus on this week's European champions league competition. The fixtures for Tuesday and Wednesday are as follows:

Chelsea vs Lille
Villarreal vs Juventus
Atletico Madrid vs Manchester United
Benfica vs Ajax

These games are going to be interesting based on the fact that these teams playing this week have all struggled in their various leagues except for Ajax who are at the summit of theirs. Thus, they all will be looking forward to the champions league games to put up a fight.

Chelsea vs Lille

Chelsea at some point this season in the English premier league were at the top of the league but of recent they have struggled to maintain consistency and are now third (3rd) on the table after playing 25 games and they have a total of 50 points from those games. Any further drop in point from them may see them dragged into the 4th place battle.
Lille also are having a disastrous campaign this season in comparison to their exploit last season. They are the defending champions of the French league but they are currently seated in the eleventh (11th) position on the log. Their last game in the league was a barren draw against Metz. Thus, they have 36 points after playing 25 games.

My Prediction

As the defending champions of the champions league, Chelsea FC will go all out as they are playing at home at the Stamford bridge and regardless of their strikers not banging in the goals as expected, I see them beating Lille but not by a wide margin. Thus Lille stand no chance against them and thus I predict a 2-0 scoreline in favour of Chelsea.

Villarreal vs Juventus

This match promises to be an exciting game as both sides have struggled in their various leagues most especially Juventus who for the past two seasons haven't found their footing after relinquishing their crown to Inter Milan. They are currently 4th in the Italian league after playing 26 games with a total of 47 points. They have made changes to their coaching crew, allowed Christiano Ronaldo to leave and have other underlining financial issues. But this didn't not stop them from getting Vlahovic their latest acquisition in the January transfer window. He is touted to be one of the best strikers currently in the world and has so far scored some goals for the old ladies. It begs to be seen if he can replicate such form against a resurgent Villarreal side who are sixth (6th) in the Spanish league after 25 games and have a total of 39 points.

My Prediction
The both sides are evenly matched. So I expect the game to be exciting but eventually it will end up a draw game. I go with a 2 - 2 scoreline.

Atletico Madrid vs Manchester United

Another exciting encounter to look out for on Wednesday night. The both sides are not strangers to winning in the champions league. Though they're also both struggling in their various leagues; with Athletico Madrid in the 5th position after 25 games and a total points of 39 while Manchester United are in the 4th place after 26 games and a total points of 46 points.
The key players to be on the lookout for are Luis Suarez for Athletico Madrid and Christiano Ronaldo for Manchester United. Though not as prolific or young as before but both players still have the fire in their bones to deliver.

My Prediction

I think the match will be won from the bench and the ability of the coaches will in more than many ways determine the result of the game. Thus, I give it to the home team, Atletico Madrid to win the match by a slim margin. A 2 - 1 scoreline will do.

Benfica vs Ajax

Both teams are not having a bad campaign in their respective leagues. Benfica are 3rd after playing 23 games with a total points of 51 while Ajax are at the top of their league after playing 23 games with a total points of 57. So the game will be a keenly contested game but Ajax have proven this season to be a formidable side thus I favour them ahead of their opponent.

My Prediction

I give it to Ajax to take the day by a 1-3 scoreline.

In conclusion, I think we are in for nights of exciting games filled with entertainment and spectacular goals.
