Pretty pink orchid : My Actifit Report Card: May 31 2025

While out and about today, I spotted a flower in a patch of grass. There were a few scattered amonst the grass under trees in the semi shaded area.

I have seen these before, but passed by. On this occasion, I took a few photos to help find out more about them.

After doing some research, I found out that the common name for this plant is Common Spotted Orchid. The spots refer to the markings on the leaves, which have dark grey oval blotches. The flowers come in colours from white to dark pink, and they are about eight inches tall.

The scientific name is dactylorhiza fuchsii. Apparently, they have a strong smell, but I didn't detect anything while taking the photos. I will have a sniff next time I pass this spot and report back! 😆
