Bandstand history : Actifit Report Card: November 11 2025

This bandstand has been around for many years. But not only many years but has had many homes as well! 😆.
It is presently situated in the Memorial Gardens here in Crawley town, England.
Originally built as part of the horse racecourse at Gatwick in 1891, before the international airport was built on the site in 1933. The then council of Crawley recovered the bandstand and placed it in storage until 1948. It was then decided to refurbish it and rebuild it in Queens Square.
After many years in its new place, queens Square was modernised, to include a new pavilion. This required the bandstand to be moved across to the opposite end of the square.
A final move to the memorial Gardens site was undertaken when the square was completely refurbished in 2016, to include the amazing walk-in fountain that is featured there today.
