My Actifit RC: Mar 20th 23 - The cutting of Aloe Vera - IAAC #309

avatar

A dear greeting to all lovers of physical activities that populate the mythical community of Actifit.

The disturbance of African origin has extended its instability to the Belpaese and has given us a day of continuous rains and bad weather. Little bad because my back pain has reached its climax and a little rest will do me more than good.

After lunch I checked the wound in the aloe leaf that I had taken away from a plant of my sister to make a cutting and get a map on my terrace.

She seems ready enough for the plant. As you can see in the picture I have everything ready for the operation so that the work is done by hand.

First of all I covered the holes on the bottom of the vase with earthenware pieces to prevent water from coming out of the vase too quickly.

With the little sieve I separated the larger stones from the smaller ones and from the pure sand and finally I split the peat stones in order to mix them with the sand.

The larger stones were placed at the bottom of the pot just above the earthenware shards for an effective drainage of the watering water.

I mixed the sand with the smaller stones and the peat so as to avoid water stagnation and dry sand bubbles.

With a cotton bud I extracted a drop of honey from a pot from the cupboard in the kitchen and I sprinkled it at the base of the aloe leaf as it has the dual function of rooting and making a protective state for infections of the plant.

I put the leaf in the center of the jar and, after giving a couple of strokes on the edges of the plant to eliminate any gaps in the soil, with a glass of water I ran the first irrigation of the cutting just ready.

The water has flowed out slowly but without interruption. This shows that the drainage is perfect and prevents stagnation.

In late spring, if everything goes well, I will find the first shoots of the new arrival on the balcony of the house.

To end my day on a high I just have to celebrate my #iamalivechallenge 309, even tonight I can say that it was a day #alive and 5k of steps are not bad despite the blow of the witch in the back.

Finally I would like to thank all my friends from the tribe of #Alive and all the new friends who happened between the lines of my stories for reading my thoughts and see youa meets at the next #actifit report.

I love that you're propagating this species of Aloe, however unlike many succulents, Aloes can't usually be propagated from leaf cuttings like this. Aloes usually produce many smaller plants which grow from the base of the parent plant, which are ideal for propagation purposes. They need meristem tissue to grow a new plant. Everything else is great! I won't say it can't work the way you're doing it, but I've never seen it yet. In any case, I hope that you have a wonderful Wednesday David! 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙

Wow that's a cool way of repotting plants. Wishing you success in growing your newly repotted aloe. I find growing succulents a bit challenging at this moment. Hopefully I will get it right eventually. Do share occasional updates about your plants. My container garden is a work in progress. Happy midweek!

Eh it will take about 20 days to get rid of the curiosity of how the cutting came about ... I look forward to seeing the result
