El Manchester City se encuentra actualmente en la primera posición de la Premier League con solo 1 punto de ventaja sobre el Liverpool, y el Real Madrid está a punto de convertirse en el nuevo campeón de LaLiga. Esto podría incluso suceder en su próximo partido.
El último partido entre estos 2 equipos fue en los octavos de final de la Champions League de la temporada 2019-2020. En medio de la pandemia, el Manchester City pudo derrotar al Real Madrid en ambos partidos, principalmente debido a un par de errores de Varane.
El City fue el mejor equipo en ese año y mereció pasar, pero estoy bastante seguro de que muchos jugadores del Real Madrid ahora están pensando en vengarse. Ajustar viejas cuentas es algo que siempre motivará a los jugadores de cualquier deporte.
Antes de que comenzara el partido, existía la duda por parte del Real Madrid respecto a la presencia de Casemiro. Finalmente, Ancelotti decidió jugar con Modric, Kroos y Valverde en el centro del campo, dejando a Casemiro en el banquillo.
Por parte de Guardiola, decidió dejar en el banquillo a algunos jugadores importantes como Sterling, Grealish y Gundogan.
Mis expectativas para este partido eran ver al City haciendo lo que a Guardiola siempre le gusta hacer, e intentando tomar el control total del balón, con el Madrid colocando a sus centrocampistas en su propia mitad del campo, y luego usando la velocidad de Vinicius para causar peligro cerca del área del City.
¿Cómo estuvo el partido?
Literalmente estaba encendiendo la televisión para ver el partido y el Manchester City ya estaba marcando su primer gol. Fue una jugada de clase mundial con Mahrez recibiendo el balón por la banda derecha, y haciendo las jugadas necesarias para encontrar el espacio suficiente para cruzar el balón al área, donde De Bruyne aparece de repente tomando por sorpresa a la defensa del Madrid y anotando un decente cabezazo.

The last match between these 2 teams was in the round of 16 of the Champions League in the season 2019-2020. In the middle of the pandemic, Manchester City was able to defeat Real Madrid in both matches, mainly due to a couple of mistakes from Varane.
City was the better team in that year and they deserved to pass, but I am quite sure many Real Madrid's players are now thinking of having their revenge. Settling old scores is something that will always motivate players in any sport.
Before the match started, there was the doubt on Real Madrid's side regarding the presence of Casemiro. He suffered an injury not too long ago, and it wasn't clear if he was going to be able to recover for this match. Ultimately, Ancelotti decided to play with Modric, Kroos, and Valverde in the midfield, leaving Casemiro on the bench.
On Guardiola's side, he decided to leave on the bench some important players such as Sterling, Grealish, and Gundogan.
My expectations for this match were to see City doing what Guardiola always loves to do, and attempting to take full control of the ball, with Madrid positioning their midfielders in their own half of the pitch, and then using Vinicius's speed to cause danger near City's area.
How was the match?
I was literally turning the TV on to see the match and Manchester City was already scoring their first goal. It was a world-class play with Mahrez receiving the ball on their right side, and making the necessary moves to find enough space to cross the ball into the area, where De Bruyne suddenly appears taking Madrid's defense by surprise and scoring a decent header.
This goal was very similar to the one scored by Havertz in Real Madrid's first match against Chelsea, even Carvajal was the player trying to stop the header, and just like in Havertz's goal, this time he also attempted to stop a header with his foot instead of with his head.
City was playing better, and both teams attempted to apply high pressure near the rival's area, but City seemed better prepared for what they wanted to do.
City's second goal happened around the 10-minute mark. This time, the cross came from their left side, and one thing that surprised me was to see more City's players near Madrid's small area than Madrid defenders.

El Real Madrid estaba haciendo que todo el partido fuera mucho más parejo y el City ya no tenía el control total. Sin embargo, para ser justos, creo que el City merecía tener una ventaja de 2 goles cuando terminó la primera mitad.
El Madrid, por su parte, requería un cambio en el centro del campo en mi opinión. Modric, Kroos y Valverde no funcionaban correctamente, y cambiar a Kroos por Camavinga parecía una buena idea. Kroos es un jugador muy lento y no puede seguir el ritmo de los complejos movimientos y triangulaciones del City. Camavinga es más joven, más fuerte y más rápido, y puede proporcionar un mejor rendimiento contra este tipo de rivales, por lo que creo que eso era lo que necesitaba el Real Madrid.

Real Madrid's defenders appeared to be very disorganized and with no way of stopping the versatile City's attackers who were moving all over the pitch creating various combinations and making it impossible to stop for Madrid players.
Casemiro's absence was clearly affecting Real Madrid's defensive system, and the team was forced to deal with a very challenging circumstance without really knowing how.
Even though City was playing much better, Real Madrid was able to approach City's area and cause a bit of nervousness in the players defending that zone, especially the goalkeeper, Ederson.
On Madrid's side, they were having a lot of trouble creating plays from their defensive line, which forced them to constantly send long passes to their strikers, and the ball was usually lost in these passes.
Real Madrid's reaction happened at the 33-minute mark, Mendy received the ball on his left side with a bit of luck because the team almost lost it, and he quickly send a normal cross to Benzema who manages to make a precise and decent shot with his first touch, sending the ball to the inside of the net.
The merit of this goal is completely to Benzema because Mendy's cross was nothing special and Benzema's touch was just perfect given the circumstances.
Real Madrid was now making the entire match much more even and City was no longer in complete control. However, to be fair, I think City deserved to have a 2 goal advantage when the first half ended.
Madrid, on the other hand, required a change in the midfield in my opinion. Modric, Kroos, and Valverde weren't functioning properly, and exchanging Kroos for Camavinga seemed like a good idea. Kroos is a very slow player and cannot keep up with City's complex moves and triangulations. Camavinga is younger, stronger, and faster, and can provide better performance against this type of rival, which is why I think that was what Real Madrid needed.
However, the substitution Ancelotti did at the beginning of the first half was Alaba for Nacho. Alaba probably hasn't recovered fully from his injury so it was no surprise to see him unable to play the entire 90 minutes.
At the 47-minute mark and just like in the first half, City had an amazing attacking play, this time it happened thanks to a mistake from Militao who missed the ball when he needed to stop it. And Mahrez, alone in front of the goalkeeper sent the ball directly to the post, then Foden receives the bounce, with only Carvajal in front of the net and he shots the ball directly towards Carvajal.
Esta fue la jugada más peligrosa para el City que no terminó en un gol, y estaba claro que el City merecía aumentar su ventaja, lo que no sucedió hasta el minuto 52.

El gol fue increíble y el mejor del partido.
El City siguió dominando, pero ahora era mucho más cauteloso sabiendo que el Real Madrid era capaz de causar un daño importante con sus jugadas rápidas.
Ancelotti hizo un cambio táctico a los 69 minutos cuando decidió enviar a Rodrygo al banquillo y a Camavinga al terreno de juego. Pensé que esta sustitución iba a ser con Kroos pero hoy Ancelotti prefirió dejarlo en el campo.
Este cambio no ayudó mucho al Real Madrid porque un par de minutos después, alrededor del minuto 74, Bernardo Silva anotó un excelente disparo cerca del borde del área en el que el balón fue directo a la esquina superior y no había forma de que se hubiera detenido. El disparo fue extremadamente poderoso y justo en el ángulo.
Esta ventaja de 2 goles fue más justa teniendo en cuenta todas las oportunidades perdidas del Manchester City, y con este gol, los fanáticos del City se emocionaron una vez más.
El Real Madrid, por su parte, volvía a lidiar con un marcador muy incómodo pero no duró mucho porque, a los 80 minutos, hubo una mano de Laporte dentro del área, y el penalti fue anotado por Benzema gracias a un disparo muy bonito al estilo Panenka.
Psicológicamente, este penalti fue importante para Benzema porque en el partido de liga anterior falló 2 penaltis, y estoy seguro de que mucha gente estaba preocupada por su confianza. Pero, siendo el jugador de clase mundial que es, no parecía afectado por eso.
El resto del partido se jugó con bastante intensidad pero no se crearon más goles ni ataques extremadamente peligrosos. Al final, el Manchester City obtuvo una merecida victoria, y el Real Madrid debería sentirse muy contento con el resultado porque una ventaja de 2 goles para el City habría sido más justa.
¿Qué sigue?
Mañana está la otra semifinal, Liverpool vs Villarreal, y esta es un poco menos emocionante para mí porque realmente creo que Liverpool podrá derrotar a Villarreal sin grandes problemas.
Algunas de las cosas que más me gustan en el fútbol, es que las sorpresas siempre pueden suceder, y me encantaría que este partido fuera un ejemplo de sorpresa, pero como las sorpresas también son muy poco probables, mi expectativa es que el Liverpool domine y liquide al Villarreal.
This was the most dangerous play for City that didn't end in a goal, and it was clear City deserved to increase their advantage, which didn't happen until the 52-minute mark.
City was able to score thanks to a recovery of the ball on Madrid's side of the pitch where Fernandinho sent a cross into the area, and Foden was able to beat Carvajal in the header.
The match was entering a very fast-paced phase because 2-3 minutes later Vinicius did an amazing individual play, among the best ones he has done in the entire season. He received the ball around the midfield line but he let the ball pass through him and this resulted in a precious auto pass leaving Fernandinho behind him. The entire left side of the pitch was now empty for him to run straight into the area. When reaching the goalkeeper, he did a proper definition and reduced City's advantage back to 1 goal once again. The goal was amazing and the best one of the match.
City continued to dominate but they were now much more cautious knowing Real Madrid was able to cause important damage with their fast plays.
Ancelotti did a tactical change at the 69-minute mark when he decided to send Rodrygo to the bench and Camavinga to the pitch. I thought this substitution was going to be with Kroos but today Ancelotti preferred to leave him on the pitch.
This change didn't do much to help Real Madrid because a couple of minutes later, around the 74-minute mark, Bernardo Silva scored a terrific shot near the border of the areain which the ball went straight to the top bins and there was no way it could have been stopped. The shot was extremely powerful and right into the angle.
This 2-goal advantage was fairer taking into account all of the missed chances from Manchester City, and with this goal, City's fans became excited once again.
Real Madrid, on the other hand, was dealing again with a very uncomfortable score but this didn't last long because, at the 80-minute mark, there was a handball from Laporte inside the area, with the penalty scored by Benzema thanks a very pretty Panenka-style shot.
Psychologically, this penalty was important for Benzema because in the there previous league match he missed 2 penalties, and I am sure many people were worried about his confidence. But, being the world-class player that he is, he didn't seem affected by that.
The remaining of the match was played with enough intensity but no more goals or extremely dangerous attacks were created. In the end, Manchester City obtained a well-deserved victory, and Real Madrid should be feeling very happy with the result because a 2-goal advantage for City would have been fairer.
What's next?
Tomorrow, there is the other semifinal, Liverpool vs Villarreal, and this one is a bit less exciting to me because I really believe Liverpool will be able to defeat Villarreal with no big problems.
Some of the things I love the most in football, is that surprises can always happen, and I would love for this match to be one example of a surprise, but since surprises are also very unlikely to happen, I expect Liverpool to dominate and liquidate Villarreal.

Que partido tan bueno...no creo que haya Sido de milagro, el juego colectivo del Madrid fue bajo, pero por algo el Madrid es el máximo ganador de esta competición...creo que en el Madrid salieron a relucir las individuales y este tipo de juego por parte de los merengues fue lo que hizo que estuvieran casi a la altura del constante asedio del city...el city metió cuatro, pero para meter esos cuatro...como todo equipo goleador y como todo equipo de Guardiola, termina sacrificando a la defensa.
Yo creo que el partido fue tal cual cómo se esperaba, ambos jugaron a lo que saben jugar y hoy el Madrid sale vivo y con una vueta a favor ya que jugará en su estadio, con su afición y sabiendo que hoy por hoy, si dependiesen de las individuales, pasarían a la final, Vinicius estuvo muy activo y Benzema el delantero más en forma de Europa. Creo que el Madrid tuvo un rendimiento de 7/10...dónde si en la vuelta logran mantener lo bueno del día de hoy y Kroos y modric logran decir presente, el Madrid pasa...creo que dependen más de si mismo que de cualquier cosa.
Y te digo todo esto y aclaro, no soy fanático del Madrid sino fanático del estilo de juego de Guardiola.
Hubo muchos ataques en donde el City no termino anotando por mala suerte, mala puntería o porque el jugador no llegaba por meros centímetros. No esperaba que el City dominara tanto, pero también mérito para el Madrid por haber podido gestionar un partido tan difícil de esta forma y obtener un resultado más que aceptable.
Creo que la ausencia de Casemiro le paso mucha factura al Madrid, si en la vuelta Casemiro juega, seguramente el Madrid lo haga todo mucho mejor.

Realmente ha Sido un milagro, Real Madrid marco 3 goles por contundencia, como ha venido sucediendo últimamente, mientras que el City estuvo en total dominio del control y muchas veces hacia parecer que le darían una goleada al Madrid.
Se notó fuertemente la ausencia de Casemiro, más que todo en la segunda mitad el medio estaba muy partido, a igual que tú pensé que Camavinga por Kroos era el cambio ideal, lamentablemente la lentitud del alemán le está pasando factura en estos últimos tiempos, ya comprendo porque se retira joven de la selección de Alemania y bueno me fuera gustado que dejara a Modric.
Benzema y Vinicius Jr son el alma completa del equipo, más que todo el Francés que está en un nivel demasiado alta, da mucho gusto verlo jugar y por parte del City siento que dejaron pasar una gran oportunidad de acabar con el Madrid. Eso mismo fue lo que le sucedió al PSG, dejaron vivir al Madrid en la ida y luego en la vuelta vimos el resultado. Eso sí fue un partidazo para nosotros los espectadores.
Esperemos ahora ver qué sucede, por cierto que mal partido de Militar, tenía tiempo que no lo veía así tan mal.

Al comienzo sí parecía que iba a terminar en goleada, pero el Madrid logró reaccionar con ese gol de Benzema. Yo también hubiera preferido que no quitara a Modric pero supongo que Ancelotti habrá tenido sus razones.
Vinicius esta temporada se consagró como jugador de primer nivel, su mejoría de cara al gol se nota bastante y con respecto a Benzema, está en nivel balón de oro, que más decir. El mejor del mundo hoy por hoy.
En la vuelta, si Casemiro se recupera, espero ver a un Madrid jugando mucho mejor, además, van a tener a su público dándoles todo su apoyo.

Concuerdo con que Casemiro era la ausencia que más influyó en el partido, si observamos detenidamente algunas jugadas, los mediocampistas del Madrid no tenían un posicionamiento defensivo o un retroceso efectivo, por momentos los espacios abundaban para los jugadores del City, luego del 2-0 el Madrid decide realizar una presión alta para cambiar las cosas, de alli viene la recuperación que luego es centrado por Mendy, esa presión alta fue determinante para lograr descontar.
Así como lo mencionas este penalti era importante para el equipo pero sobre todo para Benzema y vaya manera de sacudirse esas dudas, woow.
Así como el título de mi publicación es una derrota dulce porque pudo ser mucho peor para los merengues.

Pienso que la presión alta hubiera sido mucho más efectiva quitando a Kroos y poniendo a Camavinga. No entiendo porque Ancelotti decidió dejar a Kroos todo el partido, será porque Kroos se molestó el otro día cuando lo cambiaron?
El Madrid demostró una vez más que sabe desenvolverse en circunstancias de una exigencia máxima, muchos equipos se hubieran desconectado con el segundo gol del City.
Fue una derrota dulce sin duda, pero van a tener que mejorar y mucho para la semana que viene.
