[ESP + ENG] ¡La Supercopa de España termina con el Real Madrid derrotando al Athletic de Bilbao por 2-0 en la final!

Algo curioso de esta final es que ni Bilbao ni Real Madrid ganaron ningún trofeo nacional en la temporada pasada. Tradicionalmente, la Supercopa era un mini-torneo que se disputaba entre el ganador de la liga y el ganador de la copa, pero hace varios años se cambió este formato y ahora también incluyen a los subcampeones tanto de liga como de copa. Por eso, el Real Madrid, subcampeón de Liga y el Athletic de Bilbao, subcampeón de Copa, participan en este mini-torneo.
Llamo a la Supercopa un mini-torneo porque son solo las semifinales y la final, así que 3 partidos en total. En el formato anterior eran 2 partidos, uno en el estadio del campeón de copa y otro en el estadio del campeón de liga. Supongo que se cambió el formato para incluir un partido extra y aumentar las posibilidades de tener también un nuevo "El Clásico" cada año.
En este partido, el Real Madrid no pudo incluir a Carvajal porque se enfermó de covid, y a Asensio porque sufrió una lesión leve que le dejó sin poder jugar. Por tanto, Vázquez y Rodrygo eran los jugadores que ocupaban esos puestos.
Antes de que comenzara el partido, creo que era justo considerar al Real Madrid como el equipo favorito, pero esperaba un partido muy igualado con un ganador final con una ventaja máxima de 2 goles y probablemente solo una ventaja de 1 gol.
También esperaba ver un Athletic de Bilbao muy intenso porque este partido es su mejor oportunidad de ganar un trofeo esta temporada, también pueden ganar la copa nacional, pero eso es mucho más improbable. El Real Madrid, por su parte, es el principal candidato a ganar la Liga y también es siempre candidato a ganar la Champions además de la Copa Nacional. Aunque eso no quiere decir que esperara ver un Real Madrid relajado, solo que su urgencia por los trofeos no es tanta en comparación con el Athletic de Bilbao.
¿Cómo estuvo el partido?
El partido comenzó con el Real Madrid tomando rápidamente el control del partido y moviendo constantemente el balón en el lado del campo de Bilbao.
Something curious about this final is that neither Bilbao nor Real Madrid won any national trophies in the past season. In this match, Real Madrid couldn't include Carvajal because he got sick with covid, and Asensio because he suffered a minor injury that left him unable to play. Therefore, Vazquez and Rodrygo were the players occupying those positions.
Before the match started I think it was fair to consider Real Madrid as the favorite team but I was expecting a very even match with a final winner having 2 goal advantage max and most likely only 1 goal advantage.
I was also expecting to see a very intense Athletic Bilbao because this match is their best chance of winning a trophy this season, they can also win the national cup but that is much more unlikely. Real Madrid, on the other hand, is the main candidate to win the league and is also always a candidate to win the Champions League as well as the national cup. Although that doesn't mean I was expecting to watch a relaxed Real Madrid, only that their urgency for trophies isn't as much compared to Athletic Bilbao.
How was the match?
The match started with Real Madrid quickly taking control of the match and constantly moving the ball on Bilbao's side of the pitch.

A medida que pasaban los minutos, el ritmo del partido se fue ralentizando, llegando incluso a parecer un partido amistoso y no oficial donde se decidiera un trofeo nacional. La intensidad que esperaba no estaba allí, y puedo decir que describir el partido como aburrido sería bastante justo.
Las cosas finalmente se pusieron emocionantes cerca del minuto 37. El Real Madrid atacaba por la derecha, con Rodrygo entrando al área buscando trazar una diagonal peligrosa, cuando tenía 3 defensas cubriéndolo, toma una decisión inteligente y pasa el balón a Modric que estaba cerca del borde del área, y nada más recibir el pase realiza un bonito tiro con curva que se va directo al interior de la red rematando una jugada de ataque muy precisa.
Este gol le permitió al Real Madrid tener una merecida ventaja de 1 gol, y el Athletic Bilbao ahora se vio obligado a tomar la iniciativa y comenzar a atacar si quería empatar el partido. Sin embargo, terminó la primera parte y parecía que el Bilbao estaba lejos de empatar el partido. La falta general de intensidad seguía presente.
Comenzó la segunda mitad y se puso interesante bastante rápido. Sobre el minuto 50 el Real Madrid atacaba por la derecha, esta vez fue Modric quien le pasó un balón a Benzema cerca del centro del área, y al rematar el balón tuvo un pequeño desvío en la mano de un defensor. El penalti no fue indicado allí mismo, primero lo comprobó el VAR, y después de que el árbitro lo comprobara él mismo con los vídeos, decidió que sí era penalti. Benzema fue el jugador encargado de hacer el tiro, y no falló, el balón entró aunque el portero adivinó la dirección del mismo.
Con este penalti, el Real Madrid disponía ahora de una cómoda ventaja de 2 goles, y todo a su favor para ganar la Supercopa. Ahora era cuestión de tiempo para ellos, e incluso pensé que esas eran buenas condiciones para que Ancelotti rotara a los jugadores y hiciera algunas sustituciones.
Some of Madrid's players were also suffering from bad aim when passing the ball, especially at the beginning of the match. Later on, their passing accuracy started to improve.
As the minutes kept passing, the pace of the match started to get slower, and it even started to seem like a friendly match and not like an official one where a national trophy winner was being decided. The intensity I was expecting wasn't simply there, and I can say describing the match as boring would be pretty fair.
Things finally got exciting at the 37-minute mark. Real Madrid was attacking through their right side, with Rodrygo entering the area and looking to trace a dangerous diagonal move, when he had 3 defensive players covering him, he takes a smart decision and passes the ball to Modric who was near the border of the area, and as soon as he receives the pass, he makes a beautiful curved shot that went directly inside the net finishing a very precise attacking play.
This goal allowed Real Madrid to have a well-deserved 1 goal advantage, and Atheltic Bilbao was now forced to take the initiative and start attacking if they wanted to tie the match. However, the first half ended and it felt like Bilbao was far from tying the match. The general lack of intensity was still present.
The second half started and it got interesting quite fast. Around the 50 minute mark, Real Madrid was attacking over their right side, this time it was Modric who passed a ball to Benzema near the center of the area, and when he shot, the ball had a small deflection from the hand of a Bilbao's defender. The penalty wasn't indicated right there, it was first checked by VAR, and after the referee checked it by himself using the videos, he decided it was indeed a penalty. Benzema was the player in charge of doing the shot, and he didn't miss it, the ball went inside even though the goalkeeper guessed the direction of it.
With this penalty, Real Madrid now had a comfortable 2 goal advantage, and everything in their favor to win the Supercup. It was now a matter of time for them, and I even thought these were good conditions for Ancelotti to rotate the players and do some substitutions.
No hubo muchas ocasiones de gol en la segunda mitad para ninguno de los dos equipos, la verdad es que me sorprendió un poco ver una final con tan poca intensidad. El Athletic de Bilbao sí mejoró en la segunda mitad, pero no hubo momentos en los que la portería de Courtois peligrara. Ambas semifinales fueron partidos mucho más intensos que la final, lo que no es normal que suceda porque, por lo general, las finales son los partidos más emocionantes de cada torneo.
Militao hizo un gran trabajo durante todo el partido al intentar parar a Williams, que es el jugador más rápido del Bilbao y también es uno de los jugadores más rápidos de la liga española. Raúl García también tuvo algunos acercamientos notables pero, de nuevo, nada demasiado peligroso para Courtois.
La final se habría puesto muy emocionante en torno al minuto 87, cuando el Bilbao tuvo un penalti a su favorprovocado por una mano de Militao. Militao recibió la tarjeta roja, y si el Bilbao hubiera marcado el penalti los minutos finales del partido hubieran sido una locura pero Courtois logró detener heroicamente el penalti con el pie, y con esto el partido estaba prácticamente terminado. Si el Bilbao no pudo marcar ni de penalti, simplemente no merecía marcar.
El partido terminó con un ritmo muy relajado, y ambos equipos sabían que el ganador ya estaba decidido. Creo que el partido pudo haber sido mucho mejor con más goles e intensidad, pero al menos hubo 2 goles, pudo haber sido peor, pudo haber 0 goles, y luego una prórroga sin goles también.
Realmente espero que las finales de los torneos restante puedan ser mucho más entretenidas que esta.
¿Qué sigue?
En los próximos días, habrá partidos de copa nacional, así como partidos de liga, y después de eso, habrá un período de 2 semanas con partidos de selecciones nacionales de los países sudamericanos. Falta solo 1 mes para que vuelva la Champions League.

There weren't many goal opportunities in the second half for neither team, I was actually a bit surprised seeing a final with so little intensity. Athletic Bilbao did improve in the second half, but there weren't times when Courtois net was in danger. Both semifinals were much more intensive matches than the final, which isn't normal to happen because usually, the finals are the most exciting match of each tournament.
Militao did a great job throughout the match when trying to stop Williams, which is the fastest Bilbao's player and he is also one of the fastest players in the Spanish league. Raul Garcia also had some noticeable approaches but again, nothing too dangerous for Courtois.
The final would have gotten very exciting around the 87-minute mark, when Bilbao had a penalty in their favor caused by a Militao's handball. Militao received the red card, and if Bilbao scored the penalty the final minutes of the match would have been crazy but Courtois heroically managed to stop the penalty with his foot, and with this, the match was pretty much over. If Bilbao couldn't score not even with a penalty, then they simply didn't deserve to score.
The match ended with a very relaxed pace, and both teams were aware that the winner was already decided. I believe the match could have been much better with more goals and intensity, but at least there were 2 goals, it could have been worse, there could have been 0 goals, and then an extra time with no goals as well.
I really hope the finals of the remaining tournaments can be much entertaining than this one.
What's next?
In the coming days, there will be national cup matches as well as league matches, and after that, there will be a 2 week period with national team matches for South American countries. Only 1 month left for the Champions League to return.

Esta Supercopa no decepciono en ninguno de sus encuentros, pero este definitivamente fue uno de los mejores partidos a mi parecer, un Madrid muy ordenado y juicioso al momento de contraatacar sin descuidar su defensa, el segundo tiempo después del segundo gol se apago un poco, pero tuvo un cierre de infarto con ese penal detenido por Courtois que aunque no significaba el empate de seguro hubiera cambiado la actitud del partido
El Clasico de semifinales me pareció mucho más intenso y entretenido, esta final la ví tranquila y los mismos jugadores los noté un poco tranquilos. La parada de Courtois estuvo buena y quizás hubiera sido mejor que ese penalty fuera gol para tener un verdadero final de infarto.
