July 23, 22: Routine, Web Work, Broken Streak, TV, and Games

Shite! It wasn’t really all that early when I crashed out, but I wasn’t anywhere close to my ten thousand steps for the day and I totally broke my streak already. Although I didn’t move that much in part because I was actually working at the computer (which is a good thing), it was mainly just laying around watching the tube that was responsible; not any kind of valid reason. 🤬

Seems like that one night was an aberration…stayed up much later than usual (almost nine thirty 😮), but only made it until a little before five and ended a good hour and a half short again. 😡 Although I did watch quite a bit of tube today, I still managed to focus and do a little work in the afternoon.

Can’t recall much of anything interesting to note about the morning routine. It was pretty routine. Worked on my post and got it done and published and totally didn’t realize that the Resident Evil we were watching wasn’t a movie, but a show! It had been on for like hours and I was like “This movie is still going?!” 😂 We binged the whole eight episodes today. 🤣

I’ll admit, I did crash out for a bit there, maybe like a half an hour, but I got up and decided to walk down to the store to get my blood flowing a little and grab a Red Bull to be a real coder. 😜

Getting a bit of air and a block or two worth of exercise did help, though, and I got working where I left off. I was right that just switching to a POST instead of a GET fixed the issue (actually the cascade of errors, because before it was looking for an undefined piece of data and it kept crashing the server).

Was confident that I’d gotten the communication between the front and back ends straightened out and started implementing toast notifications. At first when I tested it, it was filling up the whole screen with this giant exclamation point and not clearing or anything. Took me a sec, but then I realized looking at the docs that I’d forgotten to import the CSS. 🥴 One line of code and blam! it looks great and now I can give the user feedback about what (if anything) might have gone wrong (or right for that matter). 👍😁 I think it’s a lot slicker than having a div and putting an error message in there, and of course console.log() wouldn’t help the average user at all.

That was a prime task on the list, though (to implement toastify), so I was happy that I’d accomplished that (was pretty easy, honestly - good package). Then I started back in to building the proper authentication process, trying to get Keychain working securely.

Unfortunately, at this point I got totally stuck! 😭😱 Kept getting this weird error and could not for the life of me figure out what the deal was…the syntax should have been fine, it had worked before.

I did eventually get an answer, though over in the Hive Discord. Turns out my network was being glitchy. 🤬 Wasn’t really my fault at all…restarted the WiFi and it worked just fine. Not sure what caused it to lose internet connection, but at least it wasn’t something I’d done wrong in my api call. 🤷

I’ve still got several more steps to go before it’s actually done…need to encrypt a message, write it to the database, return it to the client, fire a Keychain signature, and then check it against the dB entry (then issue a JWT which I haven’t started working on yet)…but, I do have the ability to take input from the user, process it on the back end, query the Hive chain, and return the result to the user (with a fancy popup thing that automatically disappears 😁🤓), so that’s significant progress in the correct direction.

I still don’t think I’ve properly handled the case where the user doesn’t have Keychain installed, but one step at a time. I have handled the case that they have a typo or intentionally enter something that’s not a valid Hive account…it fires a proper feedback error (and doesn’t crash the server any more 👍💪).

I felt pretty good about the progress I’d made, got everything pushed up to GitHub so it’s official and I won’t lose any of that work and then had some shower time with the wife. 😉

She made us some super yummy breaded chicken sandwiches for dinner and we basically plopped in front of the TV watching Resident Evil for the rest of the evening. I did decide it was about time to try and catch up some on Splinterlands, so I played quite a bit.

I did a little bit of cheating, since I realized I was so far behind on my daily steps, but I got distracted and ended up falling asleep and breaking my streak. (I think I said that already, but you can tell I’m kind of upset about it)

Not sure why dShitty insists on being like this. Did your daddy not give you any hugs when you were a baby? I mean, what’s the major malfunction, just poor consideration of supply and lack of demand (that would explain it)?

Did the one mission on Rising Star today, as is custom when my Ego is under control. It was still at zero, surprisingly, when I went to reset, so I’ve got at least one more mission before I have to switch over. Still not even close to quarter the way to millionaire, I think it’s been a couple weeks since the last time I remarked on that. 🤬

It’s finally harvest time on HashKings. We’ll have groceries to take care of tomorrow, but otherwise my only goal is to hopefully work at the computer, so I might take a few minutes out to get this taken care of rather than getting mad that it’s just sitting there.

I broke my Splinterlands fast and played a lot today. There was one more battle that I didn’t get in my pics (which was also a win), but I didn’t think it was worth a whole other picture.

Made some serious progress on the season and broke through two tiers:

They seem to have some new focuses (focci?) now, which is cool. I got Stealth today and that gave me a little flexibility with splinters. I generally use sneak and opportunity anyway.

Staked up my SPS drop. Only three days or so left! 😮 I’ve still got some vouchers on the market, and I’m keeping a close eye, itching a bit, but didn’t sell any more today…kinda’ second guessing putting them in the pool, but not really sure what to do there. 🤔
