Mar. 28, 22: Routine, Teaching, TV, and Games

Slept nine to five today, but FitBit says I was an hour short. Hard to know who to believe since I didn’t feel all that tired today, but you could also chalk that up to coffee and Red Bull. 😛

Got on with the morning routine and was once again happily surprised to see the crypto markets on fire! BTC broke through $45k resistance yesterday, but it kept right on-a goin’! HIVE popped as well, and while that does hurt my pending rewards, it’s always good to see. The only downside was that ETH rose even faster, which means that I’m losing even more, like .84 ETH. 🤬

I mentioned to the wife that I was losing hard on that investment, that it pissed me off daily, and I wanted to pull out but I didn’t want to lock in the loss. She did put things into a little perspective, though…see I’m measuring my loss against what I would have had if I hadn’t bothered with this investment, in that sense I’m down about $2900 (faack!) but then she asked me: “How much would you really lose?”

I looked at her puzzled since I just gave her the numbers. “How much did you pay for what you lost?” Oh! .84*$175=$147! Although I have lost what value I would have otherwise had, I’ve really only lost less than $150, which isn’t that bad.

Hit the faucets, got caught up on Discord, shifted H-E tokens, checked the SOL market, did some curation, and then worked on my post. Got fed up with waiting for the brofund bot 🤖 and decided to reset to a few minutes before ten since I was going to get skipped anyway and that would give me a few minutes extra so I don’t have to post while I’m on the road on Wednesday.

Got a shower, made lunch, and got everything together for work. I’d procrastinated on preparing, so I spent quite a bit of time planning and making sure I knew my proofs for Calculus.

Got out the door a couple minutes late, but the drive was fine and I was there killing time as usual. I was able, at least, to get in the classroom and get myself set up nearly on time. We covered a lot of vocabulary in Algebra today, working toward using Gauss-Jordan elimination to solve systems of linear equations, and then looked at solving systems by substitution.

We got out more or less on time and I headed out to the car for lunch. Watched a bit of YouTube and then chatted about crypto taxes on Discord for a bit until it was time to head back in for Calculus.

We looked at the Mean Value Theorem for integrals and how to use it to find the average value of a function over an interval and then used the MVT to prove the hard part of the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus. We spent most of the rest of the class playing with the formula and finding derivatives of definite integrals. There was some time left, so I showed them some By Parts and talked about “order two operations” right up until the end of class time.

The drive home was no problem either and I was changed and settled in before Wenche got home. She made us an omelette for dinner and we watched a Comedy special which was quite funny; British comedian, but I honestly don’t know his name.

After that we kinda’ hunted around for something to watch and put on some movie or other, but I was playing Splinterlands and wasn’t really paying attention. By the time I finished out both my quests, it was getting late and I got ready for bed. Wenche came to bed not long after.

Wow! Despite a crisis in dShitty, because of course, I still managed to eek out a double digit income! That’s two days in a row; unheard of!!! Look out, pretty soon I’ll have so much SIM power I’ll be able to swing the game.

I remembered to go in on Rising Star a few times today. After the drunk fans expired, I still had 1% Ego, so I did a couple lessons to get it back to zero and hopefully give myself a couple missions buffer. I did hear it through the grapevine that there’s an income for being a Starbits millionaire and it’s quite good…wondering if maybe hodl is going to be my new goal?

Kind of in the dull spell on HashKings at the moment. Just waiting for the next harvest to come through. Should probably get on the computer and do some leveling and/or raiding here…

Still thinking that a reasonable strategy is to get six Mexico plots so as to have a harvest every day, then I could include that day’s harvest photo for my post and it wouldn’t be down time waiting for days with nothing happening.

But that would mean four more plots…like another forty or so HIVE, plus that much more MOTA to stake to get the seeds to maintain, plus the water (that I’m going to need anyway)…all the while only focusing in one region and one kind of seed when others might be better (but then more expensive and more complex to manage).

Am I earning BUDS? Yes, so in that sense it’s play-to-earn, but I’ve already paid like fifty HIVE to play getting to this point (and that’s having been given free avatars), and I’m only looking at more (and more if I start forging - fricking $2 a pop)!

When I finally went in to play Splinterlands this evening, I still had that one win left on my quest from yesterday. I’d set the goal to get the quest done in Diamond II, and I had a good run and got really close, but it got late (my quest reset will be late again tomorrow 😭) and so I just completed it in Diamond III.

Not too bad! A little DEC, a couple epics, and a gold foil!!!

I got Earth splinter again for my quest today and I was right within striking distance of getting back into Diamond II. Definitely ran with that, wasn’t going to risk getting Snipe or something!

I got it done in Diamond II and while the rewards weren’t quite as good, I got some more cards for leveling:

I always get frustrated that I can’t seem to level rewards cards past eight before they go out of print, and considering the value of some of my previous edition rewards cards, I’ve been thinking it might be worth sacrificing a few DEC (airdrop points) to snag some more off the market relatively cheap. I got a few more for two and a half cents, just to throw in there toward maybe getting enough to get to level nine.

Vouchers are still hovering at around a dollar, and while that’s still awesome free money, I can’t seem to bring myself to fire the shot. Got the same ten still sitting on the market since the Waka business and getting quite a few piled up in game…not sure what to do and indecision is, ultimately, the decision to do nothing.

Staked my SPS for the day, still fell by another couple, and I’m still disappointed by how little the pack counts, but four commons and a rare would be fewer, so I guess for now I’ll risk having a Legendary in there for 500 points rather than 300.
