Oct. 12, 22: Routine, Teaching, TV, and Games

Got to bed relatively late last night, around ten or so, takes me some time to wind down after teaching. The snoring got me up around two or so and I moved out to the couch. Got up at seven when everyone started moving around and turning the kitchen lights on, but I was only a couple minutes shy of a full eight hours, so can’t complain there.

Not been feeling too bad lately as far as feeling tired, but my tummy is seriously fucked for some reason…the cramps I can deal with, but dammit my asshole is killing me. This too shall pass, I suppose. Trouble is it needs some time to heal and tummy says “nope.” 😭

Can’t say there was much of anything interesting otherwise about the morning routine. Cryptos are being absolutely brutal and just trying not to look. I’m still kind of holding up relative to ETH on polygon, but still losing about .6 ETH over there…probably should have parked it in HBD
a long time ago and I could have made some of it back. Still, I keep telling myself that it’s alright on balance in that I’ve sort of made it back on the price of BRO…plus there’s the daily vote, which seriously helps.

Speaking of votes, I got hit up by bdvoter, which was a nice surprise…made up for the autovoters being shut off for a couple days. 😁 Otherwise, just in and out of the bathroom pretty much all morning [like this morning as well 😭]. Worked on my post for the day and got a pretty solid one done (busted my word goal out of the water, for sure) and then considered heading out for a walk.

It was cold and windy and rainy out, though, and I honestly just didn’t feel like it, so just dinked around on Discord for a bit, watched some YouTube videos, and then grabbed my sandwich for lunch and hopped in the shower to get ready to head in for work. Hard to focus, honestly, with my entire nether-regions burning like a thousand suns, but the drive was otherwise uneventful and I was set up with about five minutes to spare.

It was a little sparse in class today, maybe a little less than half the class. 😭 The ones that were there, though, have been solid so far up to this point and by the end of class they really look bored. 🤣 Like, I think they get it and I let them out early. Today I even proved that the square-root of two is irrational on top of doing all the examples of multiplying radicals and we still got out like twenty minutes early.

The drive home was smooth as well and I had a good hour or more before Wenche finished with work…I really felt the pressure to work on the website, and I sort of did…there’s like three or four goals for have to achieve, but each one has at least one barrier in the way that I’m not confident how to do…trying to just pick one and stick to it, figure it out, and then move on to the next one instead of getting overwhelmed thinking about it.

So, I started researching and digging into Hive docs again. It is so not fun, and it’s a massive waste of time. I was looking for the op that will retrieve the HIVE price from the chain…after digging I found an op that’s probably it? 🤷 It has no return information or anything, just the “syntax” for the call, no explanation or anything else. I went in to Discord and asked around if anyone knew and it seems their guess is as good as mine. Suppose I’m just going to have to set up an extra page/button just to try it out and see if it returns what I need or not.

The other one that’s driving me nuts but should be simple is: transfer a card. I mean, it’s one change in the database and write the change to the Hive chain, that’s it…but what if the account they’re trying to send to doesn’t exist yet in the database? What if it’s a typo and the account doesn’t exist at all? Now I’m checking the database, seeing if there’s a result, if not, checking the chain, if the account exists maybe I should create it in the database? But now I’m making two different API calls (both of which could have an error) and possibly creating a new account just to affect the transfer which was supposed to be so simple to do. 🤬

And that’s just one (and the simplest) operation…then I start thinking about having to stream blocks to listen for transfers and then having to use websockets to update that data (just to add funds for example - let alone dealing with percentages and transfers for the market…see, I’m getting overwhelmed again.) I start to wonder if I should just accept that I’m past any age that I would have the real possibility of accomplishing anything and all I’m doing now is torturing myself with a task that will never be completed and will just be another regret…

Anyway, when Wenche got done with work, she made us some pancakes for dinner and we watched the latest episode of Handmaid’s Tale; so annoying that they’re dragging them out like a normal TV show, making us wait a week when they know we wanna’ binge! 🤬 Switched over to Golden Girls pretty early and I played some WombPlay games until bedtime.

Got a Calculus exam I need to write tomorrow and then review in the evening, but then it’s the whole weekend ahead…

After logging in to Rising Star and then having to immediately refresh the site to get new data (why it fetched old information on load is beyond my capacity to grasp), I see that my Ego is nonzero. That means a lesson for now. I’m imagining that once that lesson is done it will be a mission again tomorrow and then the same thing over and over for the foreseeable future.

It really has been a long time now that HashKings has just been sitting there aggravating me. I suppose I should deal with it now so that there’s at least a few days of something “different” (new jpegs). I have noticed the top-down capital controls taking effect in that new seeds have less and less BUDS production…a good sign their economy is unsustainable (not to mention looking for all kinds of ways to destroy their token and celebrate themselves for the lack of demand).

Only one more day left in the current Splinterlands season. Can’t say I didn’t play at all this season, tried and lost a bunch, so that was “fun.” If I was not motivated to play this time around, how much less motivated will I be at the bottom of Silver or maybe even into Bronze? I need to rent these cards out; it’s a waste otherwise.

I did happen to check and realized that I had brawl rewards enough for seven Gladiator packs. Thirty-five cards (and one nice epic) and not a single one of them worth anything…even worse, if I do get assigned to a brawl, it’s always gold foil, so not only are the completely worthless, they’re utterly useless to me as well. 🤬 So much for “rewards.”

I went in and claimed my SPS interest for the day and decided to stake it up. I already moved some out and had them sitting and I swapped them out for some liquid HIVE. I bought a little PIMP but otherwise thinking I might move it over to WAX and bury some more NFTs in Dungeon Master (have a week now until the new season starts over there - actually making $2.5 this season…not getting rich, but that’s a shitload better than the $.05 I got for the last season. I’m not setting an alarm any more either, just going in when I think about it, which was relatively frequently anyway).
