Oct. 13, 20: Mining KOIN, Short Walk, Xbox, and Games

Fork is set to happen in just under an hour, so trying to get the basic structure of my post done and submitted before the wheels fall off. 😝 Will edit later (probably without emojis 😭) if it’s still possible...maybe I can get it done properly in time?!?!

Up at five this morning and three hours short, but I’m not sure if that’s fair considering I slept for like four hours last evening. Not feeling a hundred percent, but I didn’t drag as badly today.

Got on with my usual morning routine. Looking like BTC hit its local high and is retesting support. Volumes are still crazy low, though, need some to come in for a decisive move. 🚀

Did some chatting over on Discord and was discussing the project I’m working on with one of the original developers. He pointed me toward a new blockchain: KOINOS made by the old Steemit Inc. team. Pretty cool that the mining started today, and despite being pissed that it cost $.74 to make an Eth deposit, twenty bucks isn’t all that much to risk on a punt.

Very slick GUI miner, very easy to set up and get running...didn’t have to mess with a bunch of sudo apt blah blah nonsense. Clicked the button and it fired up! 🤑 Love to hear that fan whirring again, my rig has been out of commission for longer than I’d care to admit.

Seems like a cool project...the initial distribution is being done through this mining which will last only 180 days and then they will airdrop on the mainnet when it launches in six months. The mainnet will be a consensus algorithm rather than the proof of work it is now. Another neat thing is that the mining reward is based on hashes, not blocks produced, so you can choose how fast to cash out (adjust your own individual difficulty).

Unfortunately, it didn’t take long for it to start throwing errors. I went over to GitHub and there was already a ticket open, so I added a comment.

I guess it was the endpoint having trouble, so once Wenche got off the computer I was able to switch it over and it seems to be stable. My balance still shows zero after a day of mining, so to be honest I’m not sure, but patience is a virtue.

Didn’t really do any proper exercise today. I did go for a short “walk” down to the store to pick up a couple things, so I counted it on the map, but not really, just a shuffle or a saunter.

Played some Portal Knights on the Xbox for a while. I did finally find the dude I’d been looking for for two days (was in a random hole) but I can’t seem to find the next portal to progress. 😡 I also finally found some iron ore, so was able to upgrade my workbench and craft a better bow, which helps cause the guys were getting totally OP.

We made some homemade pizza for dinner and watched a little tv before bedtime. I still had several thousand steps to go for the day, so I did some laps around the house for a bit. I already had my “map” for the day, so I didn’t bother to count it separately. Watched a little Frequency (about messing around with time, which is cool) and then fell asleep again, at least later, more a reasonable adult time than it has been. 😴

Holy shite! I think I get ‘er done in time! Woot!

No crime in my dCity today! 🥳 Not sure, but it seems they may have adjusted the effect of the Police Station...the rate continues to be lower. 🤔 Either way, good to get a little SIM injection.

Crankin’ out the Holybread tasks like it was my job! 💪 Potions come up due in the morning, but I’m definitely set for that. We’ll see how much I have left for stats.

Very pleasantly surprised to be able to say that I’ve held on to my position in the top ten! I got knocked back a little, but right back up again. 😁

I tried several times to claim my CryptoBrewmaster ingredients and get a new quest started, but kept getting server error:

I was eventually able to get back in, get the yeast I needed, and start a brew going.

Still sitting on the last one in the hope that the price will go back up...

Once again I had every intention of playing Splinterlands and then just left the browser window sitting open all day. At this point, it’s probably not worth the bother. Maybe I can actually win a round or two down in Silver, but for like five chests mostly worthless potions, what’s the point?
