Oct. 28, 21: Early Teaching, Oculus, Garage Putzing (Video), TV, and Games

Not too bad today, up at five thirty and only about a half an hour short. Didn’t drag hardly, though, and was pretty motivated to get stuff done.

Did the usual morning routine and was happy to find MATIC rising even further! Now I’m only losing like .8 ETH 🤣🤪, but still, better than it was. I bought in around a dollar, so in that regard I’ve doubled my money, but it would help if FIRE would show some signs of life.

I’d loaded up a load of metal like last Friday or something and had been schlepping back and forth to work for the last three days…was annoying both in terms of the noises as well as the ding to my gas mileage and I finally got it taken out. I think there’s only two more loads left…in the afternoon I loaded up another and I was finally able to move the last box; one more after this one should do it! 😁

Did the dishes and took out the garbage and the day hadn’t even barely started yet! 🤩 I was a bit late starting to work on my post, though, but got the skeleton set and scheduled to post, got my shower, and headed in to teach early class.

The drive in to work went relatively smoothly and I was there about fifteen minutes early. We spent some time talking about the new Po Shen Loh method for solving quadratics, which is really cool…very fast and deterministic which makes me think it could be a very effective way to teach factoring!

Today we looked at Taylor and MacLaurin polynomials and used them to approximate some values of functions. I couldn’t help myself, though, since it’s actually no different than the infinite series case in terms of the mechanics, and we ended up looking at several power series representations of cos, sin, e^x, and a few others.

Ended class just about on time, so was a little later getting home after chatting with students after class, grabbed some lunch, and it was Resi 4 time, without a question. The difficulty has definitely ramped up at this point and I’m running insanely low on ammo! 😱 Played for a while and made progress into the next chapter, but got stuck on a close-quarters battle with like eight enemies shooting flaming arrows at me from outside of a little cage and me stuck inside with a big ol’ brawler that I can only damage from behind. 😡

Died a couple times there and decided to call it a day. I had a clear goal for the afternoon, which was to disassemble and clean the Model A oil pump. I’ve been documenting as much as I can with pictures, but thought I might give a video a go:

I got it as much apart as I’m comfortable with, and thankfully everything looks good after it’s been cleaned, but I’m still struggling with the goo inside the pump. I shot some penetrating oil in there, swirled it around, and dumped it out which got some out, then shot a bit more in and left it to sit on some paper towels. Hopefully some will drip out. Need to look into a new gasket as well before I can put it back together.

In the evening Wenche made us pasta and meat sauce for dinner and we watched some more Scream Queens, the show about the sorority girls getting murdered. It’s quite fun, actually, and definitely has some big name actors! Played two daily quests worth of Splinterlands and then hit the hay.

Went in a gathered the ingredient I’d started yesterday on CryptoBrewmaster. Still need bittering hops and it wasn’t available yet, so set another going. Should hopefully be able to do a brew in the next day or two depending on when I can get that last ingredient. Don’t really care all that much, but it’s worth a few words in my post every day, so there’s that at least.

More of the same on Rising Star. I did do a couple lessons to work at my Ego, but it’s not too bad now…had some extra drunks for fans and they expired. Otherwise, just more missions.

Played some Splinterlands in the evening, sorta’ had to after missing all day yesterday. It actually wasn’t too bad, no swearing today, and I made good progress.

Had a couple win streaks, which was nice. 👍

The quest wouldn’t load up yesterday and it ended up being Fire splinter, so although I would have liked to have switched it up, I figured that would reset the quest for today and I’d lose another day’s worth, so I went with it. Got it done in Gold I:

I got Death splinter for my quest today, but thought that might be a struggle and tried my luck. Got Life splinter instead. I thought it would pose somewhat more of a challenge (and figured I’d get especially screwed when I had one win left to go), but I broke up into Diamond with the last win! 💪

Not really sure I’ll ever actually use it in battle, but I got a nice gold foil worth about twenty-five bucks!

I still have a couple vouchers left sitting on H-E, but the price has dipped somewhat, so kinda’ waiting. I did sell a little SPS, but that was just liquid coming in from divies and that I can’t seem to transfer in game anyway. I have a feeling that the voucher drop is going to end before I can get a hundred, which means I’m undecided again on what to do with them, might just hang onto a couple for shits and giggles and sell the rest off and just buy packs when they’re available for everyone.
