One of the coolest parts of the Scottish Festival was seeing all the different athletes competing in the different games. I would have loved to get involved in these types of sports if I were younger.

There was a booth for Bucked Up which is a local preworkout/energy drink company. They had a bench press set up with 135 pounds on it and gave out free energy drinks if you could get five reps. If you can do 50 reps of it, you get a free case of their energy drinks and everyone near the booth would get a free drink too.

I hadn't lifted any free weights outside of my Tonal for almost two years, so I wasn't sure how many I could get. When I lifted the bar off, it felt so much different from what I have been lifting, but I was able to get 38 reps, which isn't too bad considering I haven't bench pressed free weight in so long.

There were so many people there competing in feats of strength and it was so cool to see. I almost got hit by a stone someone threw while I was taking pictures of the people trying to throw a weight over the bar with a pitchfork. I think that event comes from people competing back in the old days when they were throwing hay.

Wow, are they still doing these games? Interesting. It seems like they are breaking with tradition regarding what to wear under the kilts.

Not many people wear the kilt without anything on underneath them here in the US.

You captured some really great shots from that Scottish Festival man.

I really love these strongman style competitions and I bet a lot of the modern day competitions are derivatives from Scottish games like these.

38 reps of 135 is pretty impressive man. I'm pretty sure most people are not capable of that.

Thanks man. These guys were super strong. Their shoulders were massive. I wanted to try throwing some of the stuff and see how I do against them. I threw shot put in high school so I know how hard some of the events are.

This looks so interesting, I would love to see it from a closer range, not so close so I don’t get hit by a stone😁😁

I love the Highland games! We have them here, but ours are not until September. Your pictures came out great and it nvites me to look forward to my own even more.

They have a tree pole that they toss and even a few women tried that one. The strength involved! I think you did darm well, especially as you haven't lifted in a few years!

The fiddle competition, the bagpipes... but the big deal is the sporting evens, although I really like the sheep herding event too! Can I have one of those?

Great time, as I can see! Thanks for the awesome photography shared!

Thanks for the compliment. Those women that do the caber toss are super strong. I just finished a post dedicated to the women of the Highland Games and they were doing the care toss event while I was there. The whole event was really cool to see and I hope to visit more festivals like this soon.

Don't they usually have them at about the same time of year? The ones around here are always in September. All of the ones within the State are also about the same.

I couldn't believe the strength of those women. It was wild! I have never known anyone with that kind of ability.

I hope you do get to see more. I was hooked after the very first. You know, Men, skirts. What's not to love?

Kidding. But, they were truly awesome to watch!

These games were during a Scottish Festival here. I think they have an event around the same time as yours where it is focused around competing in the games. I will have to keep an eye out for it because I would love to go to an event dedicated to all the Highland Games.

That's exactly it! Because it is in the US, the also have dancing, bagpipes and different things showing off the culture. I really live it and the games go on all day.
