Still on the world cup qualifiers fixtures, Serbia played against Azerbaijan in their world cup qualifiers match. Similar to the last match I reviewed, this was also one of those fixtures that wasn’t really difficult to predict the outcome because of the footballing superiority of Serbia. It was an interesting game and I really enjoyed every bit of the match. I’ve always been a big fan of the world cup, in fact, when it comes to football, the world cup is my favorite competition to watch, not just the feeling of watching your country play but the overall emotional connection that comes with the competition, especially when your country have won it.

The match started pretty well with both teams trying to make their mark on the game. As expected, Serbia were the better team, having more of the ball and more attempts on goal. Serbia has about 18 shots on goal, 7 on target, against Azerbaijan 8 shots and 2 on target. Overall, Serbia were the better team on the day. Mitrovic scored the first as early as the 16th minute. Things were looking solid for Serbia… However, Azerbaijan found themselves back in the game early in the second half to make it 1-1. It was game on. We all know in football, sometimes the best teams don’t get things their way and can lose a game even being the better team. With the scoreline as 1-1, anything can happen and the tie can go either way. As the time was going, the match was looking more and more like a draw even though Serbia were knocking. The tie was finally decided on the 81st minute when Mitrovic doubled the lead for Serbia with his double. It was a deserved win for Serbia as they were clearly the better team.
