RE: How Modern Football Keeps Affecting Manchester United.

You are viewing a single comment's thread:

Malacia and Martinez have closed that gap to some extent when it comes to ball playing defenders. Watching United most times, it's clear that there's usually good transition between the defense and midfield until it gets to the attackers, that's where the whole structure crumbles.

Our attackers rarely take on opposing defenders, neither do they make intelligent runs to be picked out. They usually look static and one dimensional.

Our real problem with regards to this post lies with the attackers

I totally disagree with you!
Attackers would focus more on the goal and position well only when they trust their defence well enough.

I beg to differ. The defenders'duty isn't to pick out the attackers but to build into midfield. Our attackers usually come to life when counter attacking and use their pace to great effect, but when we're building from the back and the opposition is sitting deep, they become clueless of what to do or where to move into.

The best attackers get picked out not because the defenders are good with the ball, but because they have the positional awareness to make intelligent runs where midfielders can pick them out. Many united attackers don't have that

The reason TAA and Robertson thrive is because their midfielders leave the creative job for them and just sit back to cover for the marauding fullbacks. United don't have that luxury

You talk of TAA and Rob, let's talk City, don't walker and cancelo push attacks? Does it stop KDB or Benardo?

I know what I am saying and I understand you too. Have you seen the way and manner at which Martinez held balls at Ajax?
