++ 9600 Schritte ++ Essen in den Philippinen.

Hallo Freunde,

obwohl die Philippinen in einer Region liegen, in der das beste Essen praktisch überall wächst und gedeiht, ist gutes Essen hier reine Glückssache, wenn man auswärts isst.
Die Straßenküchen bieten zwar viel an, aber alles ist frittiert und das Frittierfett schmeckt meist nach allem. Ich kann mich nur an eines erinnern, das waren grüne Pfefferschoten im Teigmantel und das dann frittiert. Auch die Frühlingsrollen schmecken hier meistens nur nach altem Fett.

Eine Ebene höher bieten die kleinen Garküchen und Restaurants auch sehr günstiges Essen an, zwischen 0,80 und 2 Dollar, aber da findet man überhaupt nichts Frisches, es besteht alles aus Geschmacksverstärkern, ein bisschen Fleisch und Fett, manchmal Nudeln und/oder Reis.
Wenn man Rohkost bestellt, sieht es nicht unbedingt appetitlicher aus.
Selbst in den teureren Restaurants, die es hier in der Provinz gar nicht gibt, bekommt man für 6-30 Dollar nur eine aufwendiger dekorierte, größere Menge an Fett, Fleisch und noch mehr Kalorien. Das Ripeye schmeckt wie ein auf dem Grill vergessenes Schweinenackensteak.

Gut, dass wir beide kochen können. Ich habe vor einigen Jahrzehnten in einer Küche auf den Kanaren gearbeitet und @Reccandra hat ähnliche Erfahrungen. Außerdem haben wir beide Mütter und Großmütter, die uns das Kochen beigebracht haben.
So gibt es bei uns meistens Hausmannskost, wer Zeit und Lust hat, kocht, von Spaghetti in Knoblauchöl über Gulasch bis zum Salat, wenn ich an der Reihe bin. Wenn @Reccandra kocht, gibt es Crispy Chicken, das wirklich lecker ist, oder Gerichte, die genauso gut sind, aber deren Namen ich nicht kenne und nur schwer lerne, weil sie auf Tagalog sind.

Und wenn keiner Lust hat, Reis, das tägliche Brot hier, kann man immer schnell mit etwas zusammenstellen. So lässt es sich hier gut leben, trotz geschmacklosem Streetfood.

although the Philippines is in a region where the best food grows and thrives practically everywhere, good food here is pure luck when you eat out.
The street kitchens offer a lot, but everything is deep fried and the frying grease usually tastes like everything. I can only remember one thing that was green peppers coated in batter and then deep fried. The spring rolls here also mostly just taste of old grease.
One level up, the small cookshops and restaurants also offer very cheap food, between $0.80 and $2, but you won't find anything fresh there at all, it's all flavor enhancers, a bit of meat and fat, sometimes noodles and/or rice.
If you order raw food, it doesn't necessarily look more appetizing.
Even in the more expensive restaurants, which don't even exist here in the province, all you get for $6-30 is a more elaborately decorated, larger amount of fat, meat and even more calories. The ripeye tastes like a pork neck steak left on the grill.

Good thing we both know how to cook. I worked in a kitchen in the Canary Islands a few decades ago and @Reccandra has similar experiences. Plus, we both have mothers and grandmothers who taught us how to cook.
So we usually have home cooking, whoever has time and wants to cook, from spaghetti in garlic oil to goulash to salad when it's my turn. When @Reccandra cooks, there's Crispy Chicken, which is really tasty, or dishes that are just as good but whose names I don't know and have a hard time learning because they're in Tagalog.

And if no one feels like eating rice, the daily bread here, you can always put something together quickly. So it is good to live here, despite tasteless street food.
