JUVENTUD Y EXPERIENCIA PARA PODER AVANZAR - YOUTH AND EXPERIENCE TO MOVE FORWARD

I remember that the last time Milan played a direct knockout in the Champions League was in 2014, against Atletico Madrid, who would be finalists on that occasion. It was the last AC Milan that showed glimpses of something, because it is well known that the temperance, character and spirit of the rossoneri team was diluted in a liquid of ostracism from which it took a considerable time to get out. With the arrival of Pioli, the light began to shine on the sleeping giant. A couple of seasons were enough to establish themselves at the top of Serie A, once dominated by Juventus (a club that today, curiously, is beginning to go through a process similar to that of AC Milan). Now with the goal of winning Serie A, the standards have been raised and the demands are somewhat higher. At least to the round of 16, Stefano was asked to take the 7 times European champions, and due to the randomness of the group draw, it did not seem too complicated.

However, one should never be overconfident, and even less so in this competition, as there have already been historical successes of teams with lesser resources achieving feats by beating certain giants. Zagreb, Salzburg (I am not mentioning Chelsea because, a priori, they started with greater collective power than Milan) were, on paper, lesser teams than Milan, and Milan respected them in the best way you can respect an opponent on the soccer field: by beating them.

Against Salzburg in Austria, they tied to 1. But the team that has as sponsor that drink that gives wings, went over Pioli's team, was very outclassed in Austria, and got a cheap draw. Then, at home, they received the Croatian team from Zagreb, who came from one of the blows I mentioned before, beating Chelsea. Milan made their home advantage count and won comfortably. Then, 2 matches in a row against the English, 2 painful defeats. Milan was never a match for the team coached by Potter (and later on I will write about the possible opponent for the round of 16), the qualification was a bit complicated after the second defeat, and that's when they showed their champion's chassis, with the experience of Kjaer and Giroud, and the youth of Leao and Tonali (the team in general) beating Dinamo 4-0 in Zagreb, and today, with the same result against Salzburg.

Qualifying for the round of 16 is a combination of economic and emotional benefits. Eight years later the San Siro will once again have the Rossoneri team competing against the best in Europe, and it is certainly a joy that many Milan fans needed.

¿ESTA EL AC MILAN PREPARADO PARA COMPETIR EN OCTAVOS? - IS AC MILAN READY TO COMPETE IN THE ROUND OF 16?

Based on the overall result (5 to 0) against the strongest team in the group, Chelsea, I believe that Milan lacks to compete in the direct phase. Considering that they could face Bayern, Real Madrid, Manchester City in the round of 16.

It is a couple of steps below the teams mentioned above, if they were to meet, hopefully, the most evenly matched group winners, Spurs or Porto, their hopes of advancing to the quarter-finals would increase. Of course, this is not an in-depth analysis (perhaps I will do so later, once the draw is finalized on November 7).

Between now and when these matches take place, the context and the moment (February-March) will be logically different. New faces from the winter market, fatigue, momentum in the local championship, but, today, if Milan were to face Real Madrid tomorrow, I am absolutely sure that the Rossoneri will not be able to advance from the next round.

CONCLUSIONES FINALES Y DESPEDIDA - FINAL CONCLUSIONS AND FAREWELL

Defensively Milan in the last matches found in Kjaer-Gabbia-Kalulu a strength. Especially in the Danish center back who is starting to recover the level he had before his unfortunate injury in December last year. As for Kalulu, nothing new, the French kid is exploiting his full potential, either as a center back or right back, he would go to the World Cup if he didn't have so many experienced players ahead of him. I am sure of it.

Bennacer and Tonali in the midfield have been able to fit in and the absence of Kessie is not surprising. Sometimes, the Algerian's movements remind me of Sergio Busquets' best moment (purely personal opinion, of course) and Tonali is starting to make a name for himself in the club of his dreams.

Leao performs in the Champions League what we see at the weekend in Serie A, the Portuguese is unbeatable. If he is not renewed, he will end up leaving at 0 cost and that would be completely painful (with his current level his price would be around 100 million euros), De Ketalaeare is going unnoticed, he will have to get his act together, and Giroud with all his experience does only what he has to do: goals.

I don't see any depth in the squad to compete at the highest level for Serie A, Champions League and Cup. There is no strong talk of reinforcements in the winter market. I would think that we have to resort to that transfer window to opt for more options on the right flank with wingers, otherwise, Pioli will have to decide in which competition to burn all the cartridges to win titles this season.

Now, Milan have a Serie A clash on Sunday against Spezia, a club that, in 2 of its last 3 matches against Milan, has managed to win, so it won't be an easy opponent. So, as we come to the end of this post, thanks for your support and we will keep reading!
