Coach Wooden

A couple weeks ago on leolive host by the one and only @jongolson he chatted about Coach Wooden who was a legendary NCAA coach for UCLA and won multiple national championships.

From Wikipedia -

John Robert Wooden was an American basketball coach and player. Nicknamed the "Wizard of Westwood", he won ten National Collegiate Athletic Association national championships in a 12-year period as head coach for the UCLA Bruins, including a record seven in a row.

7 National Championships in a row. I dare say that nobody will ever do that again. The game has changed and coaches don't stick around when they are winning usually they go off and chase that money.

All this talk about coach wooden and then also all the basketball I have been watching this year got me thinking back to my high school days when I would play all day and then at night study coach wooden trying to be better and be a better human. I went back this week and found my old books and shared them with my 8 year old son who is in the middle of his basketball season and we look up some quotes from his book and on the internet. We found these 5 that we liked a lot from the coach.

Success is never final, failure is never fatal. It's courage that counts.

Don't mistake activity with achievement.

I have done this a lot in my life. I think I am achieving when I am actually just going through motions.

The most important thing in the world is family and love.

I keep learning this the older I get.

Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.

It's not so important who starts the game but who finishes it.

This last one should remind you to just keep going on your $HIVE journey.

Random thoughts today. Just putting them out there to be considered. Now I am off to watch some college hoops.
