I know how much work it can be! I have raised them before and even without drying them, fighting the weather and the pests can be cumbersome.

When we lived in Colorado, we would buy chilies like these that were strung together kind of as a kitchen decoration, but they were also used to add to cooking-kind of dual purpose. They dried up there nicely. Not so much here.
