My Actifit Report Card: March 10 2026
Hey Actifiters!
Today started off cold and cloudy, but the plows burned off and the sun came out by afternoon. Calling my usual routine. I worked through my lunch and ate at my desk so that I could take my lunch break a little bit later. I'm glad I did because I was able to take a break after the sun came out and it was a wonderful walk.

I'm pretty sure I mentioned it last week, but I read an article talking about the passing of time and how our brains store memories and track time. The gist of it was that as we grow older we tend to build our lives around routines and predictability. While there are a lot of benefits to that in multiple areas, it leaves no temporal landmarks for our brains to track the passing of time. So what tends to happen is people who have nothing to break up. The routines of their life tend to feel time passing much quicker than people who introduce some sort of variety. The cool thing is the article talked about is that it doesn't have to be something intense like skydiving. Just walking a different route from what I did yesterday. Can be enough to become something for my brain to Mark the day as different from the one before.
It was a really interesting article, and left me kind of wondering if that's what often is contributing to what people call a midlife crisis. I turned 40 last year and I wouldn't say I've had a full-blown midlife crisis, but I have over the past year. Been thinking about where my life is at and where I want it to go. And also feeling like my world can be sort of small in the time goes quickly. I spend much of my time at work and then at home simply doing work at work and home projects at home, spending time with my family. But week after week it often ends up looking pretty similar to the week before.
All of that to say, for my walk today I took a different route than usual. I walked across the street and through some of the apartment complexes over there. I was blown away by how many housing units are in that area. I didn't realize it before, but there must be easily 300 or more housing units. It's a nice area, but it's kind of just off of highway 99 and other than soccer, football, and baseball fields there really isn't anything nearby. No convenience stores or anything like that for at least a mile or two up the road..
Here's a link to that article I read for any of you who are interested:
