DuceCrypto's Actifit Report Card: December 29 - 30, 2023

Back to the grind, it was a stroke past midnight, Friday, December 29, and one of my favorite DJ duos, Adventure Club, is about to take the stage at The Church Nightclub in Denver. AC came out a little before 12.30am and played until close at 2am. I even went by the DJ booth after the show to snag a quick signature for AC hoodie I wore to the event. Big success!

A local friend drove home, but with all the dancing, I was well ahead of my step count before going to bed for the night. I woke up at 9am Friday morning to get my first shave and haircut in 30 days due to the mourning period for my late grandmother. It felt nice to be fresh and crispy for the New Year's Weekend festivities.

To celebrate my sister's birthday on the 29th, we went out for brunch and then two different art spaces. Brunch was at this delicious local Cajun establishment called Lucile's. I had a filling plate of grilled shrimp, spicy sausage, and red pepper served over cheesy jalapeño grits.

Of course, I also had to put in an order of beignets for the table and take a picture of some old jazz instruments up on the wall!

From brunch, we stopped home for a quick smoke break before heading to our first art spot, The International Church of Cannabis. It was a giant old Lutheran Church converted into an art space and a members only smoke spot. They have a very nice lazer light show set to spoken word and rock music for about 30 minutes, with some time for meditation and picture-taking after the performance. While waiting for the show to start, there is an art lobby with all types of activities, including origami stations and a mushroom-drawing collection.

The light show was great. Very well produced with the art inside the main sanctuary, and there were some very impactful spoken word segments that allowed for reflection and mindfulness. Check out this gorgeous art space!

After the show, we popped outside to take a quick walk through the Gandhi garden. There was a nice outdoor smoking and grilling area with some inspiring Gandhi themed art painted on the side walls.

After the Church of Cannabis we headed to our main attraction, the Meow Wolf Denver immersive art experience called Convergence Exchange. This was my first time going to any Meow Wolf location, and it was such a cool experience. It is hard to describe in words the artistical detail of eccentric absurdities in a site that can only be described as a futuristic transportation center. My words won't even do it justice, so just take a gander at some of these more memorable pictures of the art installations at Meow Wolf!

After 3 hours exploring Meow Wolf, the troops we hungry and we went our separate ways for dinner. Unfortunately, the local Mexican spot we took the Uber to was closed, so we walked a few more blocks and settled for some forgettable Tex-Mex taco shop that was a poor excuse of a Chipotle. Not every meal can be a winner. But to sweeten up a sad dinner, we stopped at a chocolate shop on our walk through downtown.

We headed home early and got a good night sleep because our main mission for this Colorado trip is Decadence, 2-day EDM festival at the downtown convention center to ring in the new year on Dec 30 and Dec 31.
All said and done, I amassed a huge step count of 20.5K! Friday was a busy day indeed.

Saturday started slowly, I was up early at 5.30am for my Chelsea FC, who hung on to win a game that finished closer than it should have been, a 3-2 win over newly promoted Luton Town. I continued watching a few more soccer matches until my partner finally woke up from her beauty sleep.

We met up with my sister for more tacos, and thankfully, this other spot was much better. I got a taco trio of al pastor, lengua, and grilled shrimp. The tongue was the best taco, and the texture of the meat was soft and buttery!

My sister and my partner needed a few hours to get their makeup and outfits ready for the show, so I was able to sneak in a much needed beauty nap before we called our Uber at 6.30pm to head to the convention center for Day 1 of Decadence CO.

I didn't take many pictures while at the event, and only a few videos of the music. Instead I was chatting up the New Year crowd and making the most of my time on the dance floor with my sis and my partner. We saw some of the biggest artists of 2023, with John Summit and then Subtronics performing. Then the big headliner of the night, Denver-local Illenium played a great set with more bass-heavy elements befitting the bass capital of the world. By the time the clock struck midnight on Saturday, we were on our way over to see Of The Trees. Saturday, December 30, I accounted for over 10K steps. I'll be back tomorrow with another fresh report of New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. I hope all my followers here on Hive have a happy and healthy new year. Cheers!
