Dark Day At AF Bushwick -- Actifit Report Card: August 13, 2025

The day started slowly, I was up before 7am and off to school for an 8.30am arrival. This was my most active hour of the day. Most of the day consisted of different in-school trainings to introduce the new systems for 2025 and let us meet with our grade teams.

But at the very end of the school day, when we should have been doing closeout with our principal, she was nowhere to be found. Instead, some new regional director for New York coldly told us that our principal was removed from her position and no longer with the charter network. After 12 years at the same scholars, they got rid of her 5 school days before our students show up.

The whole room was stunned. Silence. Sadness. Frustration. Anger. People cried. People walked out numb. It was like we were attending a funeral. Instead of excitement for the start of the year, we felt betrayed and delfated. They gave us Thursday to work remotely on our lesson preparation. Friday is going to be very awkward. My heart aches for my fallen principal. She was the best boss I ever had. I am so sad. Until next time...
