What ever we crave for has the power to build us into its form, nature and pattern, this is not exception to Shotokan karate, other forms of sports, discipline etc. Shotokan karate if well imbibed can build a person's attitude, character and total mind of every dedicated trainee provided he is willing to conform to the guiding principles generally known as the "Dojo Kun".
The dojo kun, carefully selected to build the form, grown the mind build character believe as well as the total trainee into an acceptable martial artist in total.
In reciting the Dojo Kun, there are many exceptional words and profound understanding imbedded in the creed of which a close review into these words will expose the intent lighting up the call for the 'Dojo Kun'.

Strive:
to strive means to great effort towards achieving something
to struggle or fight rigorously towards a goals.
In karate, every trainee is expected to strive towards achievement on and off the dojo. Strive here involves actions and discipline, personal fight, commitment and efforts in making sure an excellency in the art. perfection in Karate has o substitute if one must become a good fighter. A striving training is a perfect fighter.
Perfection:
Perfection is a state of faultlessness.
Every karateker must strive towards all round perfection, not just in certain aspect but in all. The act of Kumi'te requires perfection if stands, foot work, excellent blocks, perfect and outright straight kicks, always aiming the up belt, show of intelligence and skillful techniques if one should win a championship.

Show of bold character associated with karate is inevitable for a successful fighter. this cuts across actions in and outside the dojo, attitude towards hard training, obedience to instructors, punctuality and a whole lot. A good fighter must be cultured in character words, and action to live up to expectations.
