My Actifit Report Card: January 25 2022

Hey guys and thanks for stopping by!

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, yes folks, it was another foggy day here in the Northwest! We have this inversion thingy going which is keeping the fog in place and the land wet and drippy and cold. It pretty much stays in the 30-35 degree zone. So much so, the ice is starting to form again on the pond.

More on the hike in a moment. I had been saying to @silvertop that if we didn’t hurry and try tapping the maple trees again soon, it would be too late. On yesterday’s hike, we noticed Keith and Lynne had put their tree bags out. They too missed last year’s cycle. Their bags yesterday were producing, so that was incentive enough to get him going.

We got out the taps, the hoses and the bucket from last year. I washed everything and found a 2-liter bottle and another couple of smaller bottles and got everything cleaned. We headed out to a different tree than the one we tried last year and @silvertop drilled up at an angle. You could see he had sap running before he was done! It was literally running out of the hole he’d drilled! He inserted the tap and attached the hose. I secured the bucket. You could hear it dripping! We selected another tree and tapped it. I secured the 2-liter bottle. Then after looking again, we decided to try tapping the tree that didn’t produce last year. We ended up putting 2 taps in it as it is a bit bigger than the first two. Before we headed out for our hike, all 4 were producing nicely.

After the hike we checked on the bottles. One of the smaller ones (33+ ounces) was overflowing. The other one beside it was 3/4 full. The 2-liter bottle was 2/3 full and the 2 gallon bucket had about 3” of sap in it. All together was about a gallon of maple tree sap! Here’s a pic of the 5 gallon food grade bucket I’m using for storage. It’s hard to see but there’s about a gallon in there!

This weekend coming, we are going to try boiling this down into syrup. It takes a ton of sap to make syrup, but I’d settle for just enough for a plate of pancakes. Just so I could say ‘we made the syrup!’

Now for the hike! As I said, it was cold, damp and foggy. In a couple of places, the sun tried to poke out a little.

This next picture gives you the impression of flying above the clouds and seeing the mountains peeking just above them. These are the Canadian Rockies visible from our hike, and the clouds-well that’s the fog bank!

Tomorrow is my Monday for work. I’m sure we’re looking at a busy week!

That’s gonna be it for now. Take care and have a blessed week! 👣🐑☕️🤗😁😎😴

Wow! New things everyday... You actually tap maple syrup? First time I'm seeing this and it's awesome.
Good on you both and hope to see the results after boiling and all.
Much love❤️🤗

Hey @queenstarr! I think we are going to have to boil it this weekend as @silvertop tells me we have about 3 gallons as of this evening! (I worked today and it was dark when I got home, so he had sap duty)

I will definitely post a 'boiling' post with the actifit post on the day we do it!
🤗💜🌻Take care sis; much love to you!

Hi ya @queenstarr! We now have about 5 gallons! I'm shocked, actually! Some time this weekend will be the boiling day; nestled in between roasting coffee for a customer, leading worship at church and tearing the sound system down for renovations! A bit of a crazy weekend, but I will take lots of pics of the syrup process! Love ya sister!💜🤗😘

Yes just shocking, 5 gallons, that's awesome. Do you sell them in jars after boiling too or just for household use?
You Roast coffees too?
You sing too?
O My God, like who are you? LOL
You're just gifted in a lot of handy things,I admire you💗🤗

Hey sis! We've not made syrup before and from what we've researched, it takes several gallons just to make a jar of it! Sounds like a lot of work, but I'm liking the idea that we are making it from trees on our property! If this works, we will expand and plan better for next year. Selling it.....probably not just because of the work involved.

We have roasted coffee since 2013; we have 2 table top commercial roasters that roast one pound at a time. Kind of like a micro brew but roasting. I am a total coffee snob, lol!

I sing to God, for He has called me to do that. I am shy about doing it, but I can't deny God, so I do as called. I love to sing to Him!

You are very sweet! I wish we could actually meet someday; that would be cool. Anyway, take care my sis and have a lovely weekend!🤗💜🎶

Ahh! So you're experimenting, I love trying out new things, the excitement😅

😃Awesome! I only take black coffee once a day with lemon to maintain my weight. Surely you must love coffee to know how to roast it☕

Awe! I sing too but I can stand to lead, I just sing in the shower, in the kitchen or when alone with God. My Elder sister is the bold the one, she Leads worship like you and I admire your confidence & accepting the calling💗

I wish we could meet too. Its a small world, never can tell ayye, could happen. I'd go up that mountain with you, but I'd wear an armour against those bears and mountain lions😂😂
I don't have the heart to do those things we need to do when in contact, I'd freakkkkkkk outtttt😢😂😂

Love you right back 💗

No armor needed @queenstarr! You'd have @silvertop and myself to keep you safe!

Keep on singing! God loves praise! Have a blessed Sunday sis!🤗💜😘🌻❣️

Great stepping @elizabethbit, and what a fantastic day you had even with the fog, the last pictures look amazing, fog and ice at the same time can not be too good though, but fantastic to see you tapping the maples, and enjoy the syrup from it and stay awesome.

Thank you so much @thisisawesome! I am tired of the fog, though! I am looking forward to boiling the sap this weekend. I'll post the progress; looking forward to pancakes and maple (home made maple) syrup! Take care!
