Happy Caturday Everybody!..........My Actifit Report Card: November 11 2023
Happy Caturday everybody! Yes, it’s Caturday, but more importantly, it’s Veterans Day, when we commemorate the veterans who have served our country. Thank you to all veterans who have come before and who are now serving. 🙏
It’s also another special day! Happy birthday to me! 🎈🎁🎉 As a kid, I always got my birthday off! It was a special day for many reasons.
As I mentioned last night, we were having a wind storm which did indeed take out the power last night right after we had finished streaming a movie. Talk about good timing! Anyway, the morning was spent dealing with the genny and getting showers and whatnot. @silvertop ventured out to see what was causing the outage as I showered. A big- and I do mean big tree of our neighbors had fallen. It was a dead tree that the neighbor had called about having the utility company come take down a couple of years ago. Their response was they’d wait until it fell. He inquired about having a tree service take it but it was ridiculously expensive. It needed special high lifts to do it due to its size and location. Now, they’ve slapped a ‘road closed’ sign and apparently have no plan to come move it and reconnect the power lines. Our road has one way in and one way out. All of the residents are trapped with the exception of the first 3 on the road before the area the tree fell. We are one of those folks. What makes it bad is a lot of the neighbors up the road are elderly. If they needed emergency services, they couldn’t reach them! I called the utility to explain this as did at least one other I know of. The tree is still there. 😏
So, we headed to Lynden to partake of my free birthday coffee from Starbucks and then I had wanted to walk through Hobby Lobby. Well, it’s a big store, lol and we were there a while. I got a couple of very large coffee mugs for our mochas and lattes. One Christmas gift for our daughter in law. We went to Grant’s Burgers for a lunch/dinner and the to get a slice of cheesecake dipped in chocolate (my slice of birthday cake).

Thank you @farmgirl! We were without power for 36 hours and 95% of the residents of the road were trapped for most of that time as well. The sad thing is there is nothing we can do; no one to complain to. I'm just glad no one needed emergency services!

The cat is having some nice sleep and also loved the food items you got your self as they seem delicious.
They were tasty for sure! Our kitties sleep ALL of the time, lol! Kitties in general sleep around 16 hours per day! If only I had the chance to do that!

Yes with the passage of time I heard a person sleep time goes down.
It does. My grandmother used to get up around 4 AM and would go to bed at 9 PM. I suspect at times, she got up earlier. I've also seen it go the other way; sometimes, older folks will slowly sleep more and more until they are awake very little. I'm hoping for a happy medium, lol! Take care!

Thank you @tydynrain! It was a good day except for the tree saga. The problem was the tree was so big in diameter, nobody had a chainsaw with a 4' or 5' bar. That's something a logger would have an unfortunately nobody on our road works for a logging company. It's all done now and the road is clear and the power was restored.

Our family has a dead tree on our property that we are manually removing, little by little. We could have it done professionally in just a few hours or less, but it's big dollars. It's worth the effort and time for us to do it.
It is! Unfortunately today, we were getting ready to go for a hike and one of the neighbors up the road stopped to talk a bit. He wasn't happy the property owner didn't deal with the tree before this happened. I understand how he feels, but I also understand the expense involved. We've had trees taken down before because they were in danger of crushing the house or taking out our service entrance. The last one, which was much, much smaller than this one that fell over the weekend, cost us $500!
It's a tough call. I'm not sure a little at a time would have helped this situation. Maybe if it had been topped, it might still be upright; maybe not.

I hope no one gets hurt. This is emergency. If the utility company can't see the urgency, then all living in the neighborhood should the road of the fallen tree. Have a nice one. Best wishes.
It ended up, I found out yesterday, that a couple of the guys up the road managed to get a couple of chainsaws through it and remove enough to get a car through. The county would not touch it until the utility got the wire off of it. The wire was not live and therefore wasn't really a threat; just an excuse from the county. It's too bad that the powers that be would not do their jobs and just leave so many stranded.
