It’s A Jungle Out There!…….My Actifit Report Card: July 6 2025

This picture was taken up by the pond. As you can see, every inch of space is home to one plant or another! The underbrush in the forest is thick right now-almost impenetrable! It’s been a while since we’ve had any real rain-yet things are green.

The day began at church with awesome worship and an awesome sermon! I am so thankful for this church and our church family! It’s truly home. 😇

I spent the afternoon going through some old clothing as one of the ladies in my Bible study has requested donations for a ministry she does. I have a lot of things that are too big now, but are in excellent condition. So I’m laundering them and getting them ready to take on Tuesday to her.

After that, we decided to take a hike up to the pond. Jan came with.

It’s a little on the warm side today, but the breeze made it tolerable. Tomorrow’s to be the ‘hot’ day and then temperatures will play between mid 70’s to mid 80’s with the exception of Wednesday which for now shows a high of 67 degrees Fahrenheit! Kind of cool for July, but they are calling for rain that day.

Going back to my earlier comment about the underbrush being so green; ever notice a cornfield? The plants on the outside edges can be drier looking; smaller in growth and sometimes look like they are withering away. I’ve always said that it was because the outside plants protect the inner plants from wind. The ‘inside’ area of the cornfield crates its own microclimate producing dew at night that gives moisture for the plants and the microclimate produces its own humidity levels as well. That’s why the corn is so much taller in the middle. I think the same thing holds true with the forest. Those plants and even some trees might not be as lush and green as those further in for the same reasons, plus the tree canopy helps keep the hot sun off of the plants as well. Hence my jungle picture!

Trees like this one, have a lot of moss growing on them as well.

One of the first signs the forest is really getting dry is that moss begins to die. Usually this time of year is when it begins to, so I’ll keep tabs on the moss and see whether this year will be considered a drought year. They are saying it is, but some signs indicate maybe not.

On the way home, I finally spied some Queen Anne’s Lace along the side of the road.

Apparently, there are some toxic look alike to this plant. A true Queen Anne’s Lace will have the little single purple flower in the middle of the flower. I always enjoy looking for it each summer.

A lot of people don’t care for Ocean Spray I think mainly because once it’s past it’s prime, the creamy flowers turn brownish and if you walk by with anything knit, it sticks to you and is hard to get it off your clothes. However the blooms when in its prime are delicate and beautiful!

That’s gonna be it for today. Take care and have a blessed week ahead and enjoy the rest of your day wherever you are! 🙏🌏🙏

NKJV Isaiah 60:19-22

The sun shall no longer be your light by day,
Nor for brightness shall the moon give light to you;
But the LORD will be to you an everlasting light,
And your God your glory.
Your sun shall no longer go down,
Nor shall your moon withdraw itself;
For the LORD will be your everlasting light,
And the days of your mourning shall be ended.
Also your people shall all be righteous;
They shall inherit the land forever,
The branch of My planting,
The work of My hands,
That I may be glorified.
A little one shall become a thousand,
And a small one a strong nation.
I, the LORD, will hasten it in its time.”

Your forest insights are so thoughtful especially the part about microclimates in cornfields and moss as a dryness indicator. Nature really does tell its own story if we slow down and listen.

It's wonderful to hear that you're able to donate clothes to a ministry 💖 That's such a thoughtful way to give back and make good use of items that no longer fit. And despite the warm weather, your hike to the pond with Jan sounds lovely, especially with that refreshing breeze ✨ A blessed week ahead for you too! 💖
