TOP FOUR FORGOTTEN SPORTS

Sports has been around since the beginning of time, there are many sports which were created a long time ago and bare still being played now like Football, Boxing, Wrestling and so on.

There are sports that were created a long time ago but today there are forgotten, here are four of the many forgotten sports.

THE ARTS

There was a time when arts like literature, poetry, writing were real competitive sports and was an actual olympic sport.

It featured seven times in the olympics between 1912 and 1948, and real olympic medals were awarded to the "athletes".

Sports related arts like architecture, literature, music, painting,
sculpting, dance, films, photography and theater were presented.

It was later discontinued by the international olympic committee because they believed that artists were professionals and athletes were supposed to be amateurs.

SLAM BALL

This was created by Pat Croce in 2002 as a subsidiary of basketball for those who did not have the opportunity to play basketball.

Slam ball consists of four players on each side who run around a shortened basketball court with trampolines which surrounds the basket and the inner part of the small court consists of foam rubber.

Each quarter of a game is split into five minutes which means that a game can be concluded within half an hour and there is also halftime.

Slam ball skyrocketed to the top from it's debut but it quickly faded as soon as it started, though in recent times it is still being played in China but outside of China it is completely forgotten.

SKI BALLET

Ski ballet is a sporting event that involves skiers dancing with their skis.

There were not actual dancers instead they were alpine skiers, cross-country skiers and freestyle skiers.

Ski ballet featured in two olympic events between 1988 and 1992 and was an official sking competition till 2000 when it was discontinued.

JEU DE PAUME

Jeu de paume or palm game is a sport similar to squash and is also a ball and court game, the major difference between them is the players don't use racquets but their hands.

It can be traced to the mid-17th century France and was included in the 1908 olympics though only the US and Britain participated and oddly France didn't.

Today, the game is called "Real Tennis" and is played in few cities in US and Europe.

There are so many other notable entries like Distance Plunging, Pitz, Roque, Naumachia and so on.

We all played "Jeau de Paume" back at school, which literally mean "palm play" (palm of the hand), using the hand as a racket, and hit it against the wall. I can't remember the other name for it.

Good post brother!

Ski Ballet had to be really tough because the gear is quite heavy but ultimately, was probably pretty boring because there is only so much you can really do with sticks on your feet
