First match, first win for Conte as Tottenham claim victory against Vitesse

Tottenham were in action last night as new manager Antonio Conte secures first win in his first match, as Tottenham Hotspur got off to a lively start as his new team beat dutch side Vitesse in a 3-2 thriller at the London Stadium.

The match which saw all five goals came in the first half, with three players sent off as the hosts blew Group G wide open with a narrow win to hope on qualification.

Antonio conte's side made a blistering start in the game, with Brazilian Lucas Moura heading wide in the opening minute and then Son Heung-min seeing a goal-bound shot cleared on. Despite that Nikolai Baden Frederiksen had dragged wide at the other end, Tottenham then raced into the lead, with Son Heung-min converting on the rebound after Lucas had been thwarted by goalkeeper Markus Schubert to put the host in front.

Tottenham display were rampant as they look to show no mercy despite being a goal up. The host then continue with their quality effort as Son hit the woodwork, but Lucas Moura soon doubled the lead after running onto Harry Kane’s pass to make it 2-0 in the 22nd minutes.

However, the host continue to mount pressure as they are seem to look merciless with the pressure mounted on the away side, Jacob Rasmussen then put into his own net to make it 3-0 for the host all this happening within opening 30 minutes of the game.

It all look done and dusted as the host are looking dangerous despite three goals up and Vitesse were far from dead and buried though, with Rasmussen making amends when he headed past French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris two minutes later, then fellow player Matúš Bero brilliantly finished from inside the box to make it 3-2 at for the visitors.

The visitors came out strong and had the momentum after the break and were displaying all manner of problems for the host. Cristian Romero was sent off in the 58th minute after his second yellow card and two strong saves coming from Hugo Lloris as the Dutch side were desperate for a comeback, Antonio Conte was forced to make a triple substitution that included the withdrawal of Lucas Moura as he tried to tightened up the defence.

The changes seemed to work as Vitesse’s chances of scoring reduced as they also failed to utilize their chances to draw level. However, along the line Vitesse also lost their man advantage when Danilho Doekhi picked up his second yellow of the game when hauling down Kane.

The same also occured when Schubert was shown a red card and were reduced to nine men for a handball outside his area. The deserved three points means that Tottenham leapfrog their Dutch opponents, moving into second place in the group for hope of qualification to the next round.
