This is still Quarter Final stages, so the talk of being on the cusp of accomplishing great things can be a bit premature. However, when it comes to Novak Djokovic, one cannot but envision him already accomplishing this remarkable feat.

What exactly am I talking about? Novak is exactly three wins away from winning what is known as a Calendar Grand Slam (all four Grand Slam tournaments in the same year), a feat only achieved three times in the Open era of Tennis , with the last coming by Steffi Graff in 1988.

Already one of the greatest Tennis Players of all time, Djokovic has been part of a Golden generation in the Men's game with the big three - Himself, Nadal and Federer making a strong case to be considered the greatest players of any generation.

Still, even with such remarkable quality surrounding him, Djokovic is about to do something which will make him stand out even amongst these greats.

A calender Grand Slam is no mean feat as we've previously stated. There is a reason why so few people have been able to achieve it in any era (5 in total) and that is because it requires great physical and mental fortitude as well as a great amount of luck in other to accomplish this feat.

It is possible to be playing at the highest level and be beaten by an inspired performance from just about anyone. Take for instance the 2018 Women's Wimbledon final which Serena Williams lost to Angelique Kerber despite playing so well all tournament.

Of course a Djokovic in form will likely beat even an inspired performance from any player on the Men's roster. If Djokovic is to falter, it will likely be due to his own demons rather than it being the cause of his opponent.

Mental Dominance

Novak has one of the strongest mental games of any Athlete in the World. This is particularly prominent when he goes into extended rallies with his opponents and simply outworks them with consistency and a beautiful technique. It takes more than just skill to keep those unforced errors to a minimum and Novak has shown he has a lot more to offer than just talent.

We do see some cracks every now and the though. For instance, at the Olympics he lost in the Semi Finals in a shock defeat to Zverev and went on to lose the Bronze medal match. So he definitely is not invincible, and every player on the tour knows that.

Easy Route?

With Both Federer and Nadal absent at the tournament, the level of competition is certainly lesser than it could be for Novak. However, we still have World number 2 Damil Medvedev as well as Olympic champion Alexander Zverev in the mix to make things interesting.

Conclusion

It is always special to witness a bit a history, and Djokovic is certainly capable of making that happen come Sunday. His greatness is already secure, but a calender Grand Slam will forever cement his legacy.
