With Fame and Fortune Comes...

There is massive outrage over the Mason Greenwood Sexual Assault allegations, and rightly so. The gravity of the offence is no laughing matter, and one fundamental issue that has dominated the women rights movement.

Make no mistake, if found Guilty (I say if because I won't be playing God with judgement until all facts are out), Greenwood's promising career would most likely be over. Should that be the case, prison time should well accompany any action taken by his employers. This is just to highlight the gravity of the offence.

But how does a 20 year old with one of the most promising careers in English football right now involve himself in such a mess? Could he be paying the price of the temptations that come with fame and fortune or is there something more sinister at hand?

Celebrities in any field, mostly males, are not new to sexual assault/abuse allegations. We have seen quite a number of them in the past with some managing to clear their names, hence the caution not to make hasty judgements. However, it does appear these allegations seem to be on the increase, or more victims are simply finding the courage to speak out.

Control Yourselves

Why in the World would a rich and famous athlete have to resort to rape? Surely they can attract an overwhelming majority of those they set eyes on without much trouble. I am laying this down to a more fundamental issue that is amplified by finding fame and fortune, that is a lack of personal discipline.

Truthfully, if the right kind of values are not set in before success comes, the money and fame will only make things worse. The problem though is the question of who bears the responsibility of instilling the right values in potential youngsters before they become superstars? Before the enhanced fame and fortune comes?

The obvious answer is family but there is also something potential employers can do from my own perspective. For instance, amplifying the danger of such a scandal is one example by letting athletes know what they stand to lose. The way everyone has turned their back on Greenwood is one example, but it shouldn't take actual periodic scapegoats to keep others in check.

Conclusion

We really do not need to see more of such ugly incidents in the sporting World, or anywhere for that matter. Women have suffered enough in the hands of abusers and am in full support of the sporting World's zero tolerance stance on these kinds of issues. I hope players do learn though, that with fame and fortune comes the public eye.

Alex Ferguson used to be the father figure at the club for the players making sure they were not getting into any trouble. I think the club could be in serious trouble if implicated in previous cover ups which apparently they have been doing. Imagine being a sponsor knowing they were doing this and a young lady was in danger.

It's really heartbreaking to watch this unfold. I do hope justice is done at the end of the day though, and the truth comes out fully

It's so crazy how things can go down in a blink. This is a really controversial topic and I hope the justice will prevail!

It is an ugly case and I really hate attempting to analyze it as whatever I think of seems to be a justification to some. Greenwood should have controlled his urges. But, with the amount of money and fame given to young players, academies have go an extra mile in educating players about these things so they don't let them get into their heads and think they own the world and people in it.

In this case I think it goes beyond fame and money. The young lad obviously has issues which need to be handled, and fortune has only amplified things
